I'm looking at the PTE GT35R Mitsu housing turbo.

Has anybody run this turbo on their DSM? How did it perform, spool up, dyno numbers, etc.

I'm really leaning towards that turbo on my 2.4L, but am curious if anybody has any experience with it. The price seems right. And it would be a true bolt on affair for me with my DNP manifold,VPE 2.5 inch O2 housing and my downpipe.

Brian @ Precision Turbo said it would be best to run it with the E housing. He said the GT35 exhaust wheel fits in their Mitsu housing very well with the .63 a/r. He said I would expect to see full (30+psi) by 4400 rpm with a max power of about 630-650 hp.

Just wanted some hands on experience if anybody has any.

Thanks, Mike.

An exhaust side of PTE is too small for 2.4 as well. Even though it's rated at .63 or whatever it is SMALL.

I just dynoed my car saturday with a garret gt35r........with cam 2 and 30 psi we made 546.3 awhp and 401.8 ft/lbs....spool up was better before we played with the timing (4500), but with 10 degrees of advancement, we went from 479hp to the 546.3, but spool up hesitated to about 5500-5600rpms.....we hit peak hp at 6800rpm and it carried all the way to the 8500rpm rev limit we set. However I have a tial 40mm wastegate with the 1 bar spring....so we had trouble boostin past 30 psi, which might have also been caused by a small exhaust leak. Im switching to a nice set of copper gaskets and getting a tighter spring for the wastegate....i think with a little more modulation of the timing and 35psi, we might be able to hit ~650ish whp. Overall im really pleased by the performance of the turbo...as soon as i get a hold of a scanner I'll post the graphs up for you guys...oh and A/F was at 11.9.
By the way, did any of you guys have trouble with ur dipstick handles melting....mine did on the way home and it leaked out oil onto the alternator and killed it. I tryed spraying it with brake cleaner , and replaced the plugs, but it still wont seem to spark.....any suggestions for an alternator, and a billet dipstick.....Kev

What is the exhaust a/r of your 35r Kev? It's always nice to see some good #s. Congrats.

As far as alt., are you sure that's the problem? Mine has been dripped on for a long long time from a PS banjo bolt (before I got off my lazy ass and fixed it) and still is alive.

I kept melting my 2g dipstick, then i bought a 1g dipstick. If your goal is 650 you might be better off with a bigger turbo it will make reaching your goal alot easier. that is the position i am in now, I am looking for a turbo that will flow 65 pounds per minute easily. i am stuck between the fp3565 and the fp 3575 but I am leaning away from the 3575 for lag reasons.

Back on topic i wouldn't want a gt35r with a mitsu housing on my car because its just too small. It may work for some but for the money why not go with a full garret or with the fp housing.

What was you backpressure Ratio??

My A/R is the giant 1.06.....btw back to my pos car, LOL. My car stalled on me and I thought it might have been something electrical...alternator possibly..however thats not it. I just checked the plugs about an hour ago and they wont spark. I replaced them and they still wont spark......you guys think its something with the coils......im still running a stock ignition with custom magnecore wires and NGK Iridiums????? :(
as for backpressure ratio, im not finding it on my printout ...wat would it be labled under
MAP 2.27 temp 56.6 baro 28.8 relhum 82.4 volt 0.917 lambda 0.917 speed 52.2
effort 638.7 accel 0.2070 dist 6.7 p/pc 1.05023 powfly 68.9 powcorr 68.9 power65.6
torqfly 155.7 torqs 214.7 torqm 249 torq 463.7 engrpm 3001 hubrpm 743.11 time .09

If anyone dyoned on a dynapack dyno, im sure u can make sense out of this mumbo jumbo then i could .......hopefully ill have the scanned graphs up for u guys tuesday

Is this with the PTE GT35R Mitsu housing turbo? :thumb:

I vote no on the coils. Even though they just fail instead of slowly die, I doubt both would go at once. You could swap them for some different stockers though, but I really feel your problem is elsewhere.

How is the turbine housing on these gt35r's normally without the special Mitsu setup? T3 with a 5 bolt?

my gt35r is a full garret...and yes its a t3 style with the 5 bolt
Alright guys, any insight would help.......I narrowed down the problem with my car not getting spark to one of two things.....either the coils are bad (how would you check these if they were bad) or the ignition module is screwed up (once again how would you check to see if this was messed up)........basically before the car died out on me, the few days before it had trouble starting. Like it would never start up on the first try....you would have to turn it over twice, and on the second time I'd have to blip the gas to get it running.....any suggestions will be a big help guys....KEV........btw when the car died on me, i was in between a 2nd and 3rd gear shift...if that means anything

I love my bolt on gt35r

with a bad tune last night i went 12.08 @ 119.5

you might want a larger ar on stroker though

How did you get your car idle with the Tial BOV and using 2G Mas? Can DSMlink do that? :thumb:

Here's my 2¢ about the PTE bolt on stuff. I have gone 127mph (11.52) in my heavy ass 2G GSX long rod 2.4L with the SCM61, internal gate with a P trim turbine in the .63 version of their mitsu housing with an E compressor cover. That was the first and only time the car has been to a 1/4mile track this year or any time ever. 60 ft was a terrible 1.9.

So.... it may not be the best turbo for the application but it damn sure gets the job done in my opinion. For the money, you cant beat it.

And about the S housing. On a stock mitsu manifold the S housing will not clear the water pipe. You would have to beat it almost completely flat.

I would think that a turbo with the small 7cm housing would have alot of backpressure in high boost app. and would not let you make as much power as having the same turbo with a bigger housing
