problems with shifter

Alright so I have had this problem when I first got the car. When I take it out of park and put it in drive it doesn't lock so it can freely move up and down. It only locks in park. Would could be the problem?the shifter?the whole shifter assembly? Cables? I will take a video once I get home to better explain it

Sounds like the shifter assembly, since the locking mechanisms are in the assembly. So if you werent careful would it go from drive to reverse if you moved it enough, or is there still the stop between Nuetral and Reverse?

Yeah there is no stop. sometimes when I put it in drive and if I barely move it up it goes out of drive into neutral

Yea, judgin from the video, I would say its the lock mechanism in the shifter. Probably need a new assembly

Is it easy to replace the whole shifter assembly?
