problems with my friends car!

my buddy just bought a 97 gst. well. heres the issues, the car idles fine then the gauges start to flicker in the car and it starts to cut out. if you give it fuel it barely revs up. what could the issues be? obviously wiring somewhere

Get the alternater checked.

it has a new alternator. it needs tightened. i bet thats the problem with the car!

Sounds like you arent getting a charge to the battery. Check your grounds from the battery at the frame/engine and/or the wires going from the alternator to the battery (the big white ones). Have you tried running the car with jumper cables hooked to another vehicle?

If the previous owner recently replaced the alternator, it wouldn't hurt to pull it off an have it tested. It's not uncommon for alternators from parts stores to be bad right out of the box.

But I would also make sure the battery terminals are clean and tight. Check the ground wires going to the starter including the wire going straight from the negative post to the firewall.
