1G Problems Starting car, very sporadic, please help

This is on a 93 Eagle Talon Tsi AWD. The car about 50% of the time has problems starting, it will crank and turn over but just wont catch. This has been going on all winter, the car is always filled up with premium and I just got a coolant flush today.

The other day I also figured out that if the car is not starting, I can crank it over, stop, and while it is still kind of cranking, crank again and it will start. It's like catching it while its already cranking. It seems like that's the only thing that works. Car is basically stock besides a Aeromotive AFPR which the fuel is set perfectly on, so I don't know what else it can be. Starter? Fuel? Spark? And also, other times it will start up no problem at all.

Please help.

what all have you checked? i would start by getting the starter checked out at advance or maybe napa, then go on to plugs/wires, then fuel, then compression

Im in Canada, so im not sure who will be able to test the starter. How will they go abouts doing so?

well you should be able to take it too a local parts store and they have a machine that will test it and tell you whats wrong with it, i know in the U.S. Advance Auto does it for free i have no idea however about canada

First check compression. If you got that then its spark, fuel, or timing. Then check fuel and you dont always have fuel if you hear the pump. Pull the return line and check for fuel and if it flows then spray some like carb cleaner or wd40 in your intake and see if that works....If not then check your filter and if thats fine check your fuel pump. If all thats fine check your injectors and/or your ecu. If you dont have spark how ever try checking your power module, fuses, and ecu. Oh and your CAS. If fuel and spark check your timing or firing order. firing order I believe is 1-3-4-2. AND if it still dont start then drive it off a cliff....Joking! never do that to a DSM! So I woke up this morning and remember another reason why it wont. Check your coolant sensor and wiring? Sometimes the wiring gets old and will just break off and will cause unusually long starts.

I would test the coolant temp sensor and make sure it is within spec. Is it hard starting at all times or jus when you go to start it in the morning?
