I just bought a GSX. It had the stock UICP pipes and bov installed, but the guy had bought the Greddy UICP piping and RS bov and just not gotten around to installing it, so I installed it yesterday. With the stock setup, I could hear the turbo spooling really loud, and the bov was operating fine. After the Greddy setup, I can't hear the turbo spooling and the best I've been able to get out of the RS with adjusting so far is an extremely slight and quiet whistle or compressor surge.

Does it sound like I could have created a boost leak at one of the connections or does it sound like something else? Also, I know its been asked so many times, but does anyone have a more specific idea of where to adjust the RS to? The car has an Evo3 16G.

thanks

Have you set it up to be recirculated or is it just vented to the atmosphere? Also, did it come with multiple springs? You may need to swap in a lighter spring.

Its recirculated, and I'm not sure about multiple springs. How would I tell? And if it does have multiple springs should I just do the single-spring "mod"?

Try venting it to atmosphere temporarily just to see whether or not it's actually working (don't forget to block off the recirc tube when you do this).

Try venting it to atmosphere temporarily just to see whether or not it's actually working (don't forget to block off the recirc tube when you do this). As far as springs go, there's supposed to be 3 different size springs that you can run to change the base stiffness, but only one is supposed to be used at a time from what I've read.

If you want to test it, do a boost leak test which should be done ANY TIME you mess with intake piping after the turbo. If you take off the recir. pipe and vent, the car will run like ass.

A real RS bov has 2 springs installed under the cap. To get the cap off you need to unscrew the side nipple and then the hex screws on the top. Be careful on the last few, there is a lot of pressure wanting to pop off the cap.

Also, if the bov is used, you may want to check the diaphragm on it. Mine was a new one and had a hole in the diaphragm after a few days.

Defiantly do a boost leak test and fix any leaks you have.

What did the searches say? Any adjustable bov is the same for the kind of adjustment needed. Just adjust hard enough so you don't have surge. Each car is going to be different to where it needs to be at. Some are hard and some are soft adjustment. I'd recomend backing the adjustment screw out all the way and slowly turn it harder until you feel pressure. That pressure is the screw hitting the plate above the springs. Take test drives after adjusting it and I'd start with a full turn until the bov stops leaking air. After that, go quarter turns until you get compressor surge and once you hit that, back it out a quarter turn and make sure there isn't surge. That should be the hardest setting to run.

Search compresser surge and fluttering to help you out.

If the BOV is vented with the recirc pipe blocked off like I said to, the car won't run like ass. It'll go rich when it vents, and the rest of the time it'll be no different than running a recirc. However, I said to do this purely as a test to see if the BOV was actually opening, not for daily use.

Did some more searching and I was wrong on that one, they do in fact use two springs. I took the single spring part out of my last post now.

When I did this to my car when I first got my RS I vented it just to try and hear it, and it was terrible even at idle. Mine was probably leaking though from the start. You should hear the bov wether it's recirculated or not.

Okay I've got the bov adjusted pretty well, but does anyone have any ideas why I can barely hear the turbo anymore? If I'm not mistaken, the hard pipes are supposed to make the turbo spool louder and quicker, right?

I've got the same setup and I can hear it spool all the time and it blows off pretty loud too. I cannot suggest any fixs though.. sorry.

I have a RS and hard piping with E316G but I don't really hear the turbo spooling at all. I can hear the bov over the exhaust but it's not LOUD but noticable in the car.
