My car is a 99 Gs and keeps overheating when i sit to long and every where i go and open the radiator cap it is bone dry after one drive.... What is causing this or should i check?

Thanks :dsm:

thermostat could be sticking causeing coolant to flow, and then overflow in the overflow container, is it full? if so is it excessive?
Also check for colant leaks(puddles under your car), things of that nature.
If none of these solve it let me know, could be a few more things :dsm:

but where does the over flow container flow to? if he keeps filling it and it keeps ending up bone dry, then wouldnt the overflow container fill up and not allow any more in there preventing it from being bone dry? im thinking theres a leak somewhere...

If you can't find a leak on the ground, see if your crankcase case oil is filling up by itself - cracked block.
If you can't find a leak on the ground, do a leak down test on cylinders - head gasket or cracked head.

I know water vaporates but not a that rate ;)

If his overflow container is anything like mine it has 2 hoses, the hose not coming from the thermostat housing discharges coolant(to the groung) once it reaches a certain level of fullness/pressure. Plus he said when he opened his radiator cap it was bone dry, not the over flow canister. Just my 2 cents and a bad thermostat could be causing it, but you could be right too GSgoinfast, he could have a leak elsewere I just try to approach problems like these with the simplest things first :dsm:
