When I pulled off the Timing Belt, not all of the tension was gone so the camshaft moved a little bit. I took pics of it. I'm wondering do I just move it back to align it or how do I adjust it to get it back even. Also the oil pump sprocket moved just a little bit. Here are the pics...

Cool, I just wanted to make sure that was okay to do and I wasn't going to screw anything up. Just needed reassurance as I've never done anything like this before

Car still isn't put back together yet. I just wanted to make sure again all I do is turn them to realign them again? The left sprocket will need to be rotated CW and the left CCW. Is it okay to go CCW?

you better not just line the marks up and throw the belt on and tension it down.

the intake cam mark should be level then the exahust came needs to be pulled down one tooth off then put belt on those 2 and hold it with clips, then down to the oil pump sprocket that should be 1 tooth off ccw if i remember correctly but it could be cw i am pretty sure ccw, then put the timing belt on the rest, when you tension it down and spin the crank around a few times if steps are done correctly they will line up better than a #### hair

when you pull then tension on then belts the it removes the slack from the belt in order to remove the slack something has to move so the gears do and thats when they line up

if you just line the marks up perfect and throw the belt on after spinning the crank i gurantee the marks will be off plus its almost impossible to get the oil sprocket lined up right with all the marks lined up when putting the belt on

trust me i have done my fair share of these timing belts and have it down to a science and can do one from beginning to end in under 2 hours from time i start to time cars leaves

the first time i ever did one on one of these cars i found out the hard if you line the marks up put the belt then tension and spin the crank 6 times the marks never line up after the spin which is more important than being lined up before the spin

and for all you guys who are dueing a routine timing belt change LINE THE MARKS UP BEFORE YOU TAKE THE BELT OFF. ALL IN INCLUDEING BALANCEING SHAFT. then take belt off and put new belt on with out spinning any sprockets and your motor will never know the belt was chaneged.

plus the oil pump should fall a certain direction when the arrow is pointing straight up, i never do that any more because i line the stuff up before i take off so someone might want to tell which way it will fall if in correct phase

does that solve the mystery for you

for those of you wanting to know a good trick buy yourself a few double end box wrenches that are really long. they make the job go way faster and will be the best investment for this job

Well I was given the wrong Tensioner so I had to wait on it, I'll probably get back on it tomorrow. So what your saying is that when I put the belt back on, my sprockets will line back up? Everythign was lined up perfect before I took the belt off, after I took it off it those 2 messed up. Everything else is still lined up perfect.

I just tried putting the belt on and putting tension w/ the tensioner pully and it did indeed moving sprockets like you said, but it moves them the opposite way. What now?

What I was thinking I have to do is take 2 wrenches, line up the marks a lil past where they should be so when I apply tension it will line them up?

Here ya go:

If you scroll down to step #33 you will find a Note saying this:

NOTE: THE EXHAUST CAMSHAFT SPROCKET MAY ROTATE IN THE COUNTERCLOCKWISE DIRECTION AS THE BELT IS TENSIONED. THIS SHOULD BE CONSIDERED WHEN INSTALLING THE TIMING BELT. If the camshaft sprocket timing marks don't line up after tensioning the belt with all the other timing marks lined up, loosen the belt and retension it, but try rotating the exhaust sprocket slightly clockwise (1 tooth off) first.

do not go ccw, just put a socket wrench on the left cam bolt and turn it cw one tooth, while doing this, install the belt on the cams. the lines should be matched up again. take a pair of visegrips and clamp the cams together (NOT TO TIGHT) the will hold the position of the cams.
