primer question

im smoothing out all my interior plastic pieces and painting them to match the body. What kind of primer is going to work best? Should i just buy regular filler primer or is there a special type for plastic pieces and other high flex applications?

FulFil from DuPont works good, and so does FeatherFill from PPG. i think the Featherfill actually has a hardener that you put in with the primer. I used it a few months back on my last project, and really liked the turnout. you can lay it on real thick, and sand it down nicely.

if FeatherFill is not the one with the hardner, ask your local autobody supply store what has the primer/hardener, and try to use that. i think that would work the best for you.

make sure the really really scuff up your plastic pieces first, so the primer sticks well. also, ask the autobody shop about an adhesion promotor for plastics.

Will this turn out with a fiberglass like result? I've always heard of people just slapping a couple of layers of glass on top of the panel then using body filler to achieve the look.

it will turn out like a finished basecoat/clearcoat result... if you do it properly.

so to answer your question... yes, if done properly it will look as good as the exterior of your car does.... nice smooth, glossy finish. (assuming you don't have issues with your clearcoat that is... )

you are much better off to sand the plastic smooth than you are to use glass. From everything ive been told the glass will not stick correctly to the plastic so you are better off not to use it

You could always drill tiny holes all over the place to help adhesion, but glass is alot of work, I like the idea the original poster is after.
