How should I prep the block if I want to start assembling the bottom end? A friends dad who know's a lot about this stuff told me to wash it all out with soap, water, and wipe things down with a white cloth. And then douce the motor in wd-40. What's the best way to do this? I don't want to f**k anything up in the bottom end.

Wd 40 or brake cleaner i use brake cleaner, soapy water, rinse, then use a compressor to blow it out compeletely. Wipe off with a clean rag, then i put a bit of oil on the cylinder walls.

Completly strip the block and spray it down with oven cleaner, than clean it with purple power and a scrubbrush. Keep it wet the entire time so it doesn't rust. When you dry it blow it out with air and spray wd40 on it at the same time, especially in all of the oil galleys and bolt holes. On assembly i reclean every journal and cylinder as i go with brake cleaner. Remember, bearing clearances can be as tight as .001" in these motors, about the size of a piece of dust, or cloth lint.
