Hey guys, I was wondering if you could tell me where I could get a manual steering rack for a 95 Eclipse RS. I would like to get rid of the power steering but I have no idea where to start. Thanks a lot

Start with the power steering belt. Should come off pretty easy if you loosen the top pulley.

Drain the fluid, and go for a test drive, see how u like it.

My opinion ( I hate it), I snapped my power steering belt a couple of times when I first got turbo'd and I hate not having it as a daily driver.

Yeah man, I'm with Rand. I didn't mind it at all at first, but now I miss it.

Once you remove this belt you will lose the Air conditioner also. Hope you know that.

I already got rid of my a/c so that won't matter. Is there a way to get a manual rack for it?

Not that I know of, since no Eclipse came with manual steering as an option. Plus, I haven't seen, or heard of any aftermarket manufacturers making one.

I don't see why you couldn't trim the PS lines down to near the rack and cap them off. You would just need to keep what is left filled with PS fluid for lubrication. Then, you could remove the PS resevoir, pump and bracketry without consequence.

Power steering is overrated...I actually think my car is easier to control especially faster highway driving etc. It's obvious tight turns and slow moving maneuvers and a pain sometimes, but you get over that rather quickly.

Yeah right. I drove without power steering for a week and I definitely didn't get over that shit. It was one of the worst experiences while driving. The worst part was trying to park or back out of parking spaces, once the car is moving at a higher speed then you forget that you don't have it though.

Car seems way more under control at faster speeds, and YES you do get over the parking etc nonsense...it's called muscles ROFL

? do you have to leave fluid in for lubercation or not?

Yes, you do. Either way, if you ;eave the PS system in place and remove the belt, or remove everything and trim the lines down to the rack, you want that rack to be immersed in PS fluid. If it dries out, it'll become pretty hard to steer as thing rust down there.
