I was just wondering what could possibly be causing this belt to squeak when i shift above 6 grand, or when i down shift. I've checked how tight the belt is and its as tight as i possible could make it. The Belt is only 2 months old because my first one shredded on me. So i was just wondering if anyone has had this happen to them before and if there is anyway to stop this from happening other than taking the belt off, I'm like power steering too much to go without it.

I lost my ps belt about a month back ROFL

I always get that annoying squeek too...say when downshifting to 3rd at 60 or somethin. Oh yeah, I have no ps now...and I still get the squeek OMG Also, I don't have a/c.

I'd start by putting belt dressing (you can pickup for about $3 or so at Kragen) on every external belt one by one to see if you can eliminate the issue...That way you'll know which belt it is exactly and if it's internal or not. Also, the noise may not dissapear completely immediately but check for differences in tones (if you do find the right belt) after applying the belt dressing. :thumb:

I was just throwing in that my car didn't have a/c period....and since the belt is gone, no ps anymore LOL! So yes, it's either the pulley or the alt. belt...but I'm not gonna change it considering I will have to replace it again when I get an udp.

The squeeking doesn't really bother me for now anyways since it only occurs under high load situations aka the downshift

Ahh the downshift, my favorite, the squeak should add some intimadtion to your opponent. Downshift on his or her ass and get him off gaurd as more and more of his car ends up in your rear view mirror.

Thanks for the help guys. I put some belt dressing on it this morning and the squeak hasn't come back yet, I put it on both belts just to make sure and so far so good. Thanks for all your help. :thumb:

WD-40 or Liquid Wrench, Something to that effect is actually better for prolonged use as belt dressing tends to dry the belts out. But both are temp fix anyway

The first one shredded because your harmonic balancer is failing. Replace.

Yeah I know thats why it shredded. I replaced that right after the belt shredded. I should of said that when I placed this question, but the squeek has stopped after added belt dressing and spraying with some wd-40. The squeek was just so annoying being my daily driver and all, Im so glad that its finally gone. Now that I have that taken care of, its time to finish putting the motor in the tsi awd! :thumb:
