Hi I have got an 97 Eclipse GSX I got the car about 2 Months ago, completely stock, the first afternoon I bought it the power door locks were working intermitently, well now neither side works at all. You cant here a thing with you press either switch on each door, just nothing at all. I thought it was mighty wierd for both switches to go out at once, but I guess it could be the case. I checked the fuse and its okay, is there any way to test the relay, I know there is one behind the radio are there any more? Please help:confused: thanks

I also know that there is an aftermarket alarm on the car but has been disabled some of the wiring is still under the steering colum, I dont know much about alarms but could that have anything to do with it. The (the horn has been cut off to it, also the power wire to the alarm control box has been cut off) so it is inactive. But I just didnt no even though the alarm is inactive could it have anything to do with my power door locks being dead, thanks

I have this problem with my car as well. I've had the distinct pleasure of breaking both door handles in the past 18 months (cold weather/doors frozen closed/overly enthusiastic pulling :( ) , and the body shop that installed the new handle assemblies told me that the reason my electric locks were not working is that there is a somewhat fragile electrical connection on the end of the lock cylinders that had broken off. These connections are what allow the doors to talk to one another electronically, and allow the factory keyless entry to operate as well (which does not work on mine b/c these connections are broken). I was told the parts are only a couple of bucks each, but the install labor is going to be like $50 per door. I'd do it myself, but it's a royal PITA to get to the lock cylinders/handle assemblies...which is why I had the body shop do the work in the first place. Hope this helps!

:thumb: If I peal off the door panel and lgo inside the door will I be able to Identify what is broken in there or is it something that cant bee seen by the naked eye. When you say electrical connections will they appear to be disconnected, if not where are they located and is there any way I can test them to make sure thats my problem. Thanks for all of your help.

Matt has it right: there is a "fragile electrical connection on the end of the lock cylinders" which is most likely your problem. I just did mine and it's a real pain. You have to peel off the inner door panel and look up there to see if the wiring is still attached. The entire door handle assembly (with lock cyl) can be pulled out the outside but you have to unhook the two pushrods from the door latch assembly that go up to it, disconnect the wiring, and remove the 2 mounting nuts - all from the inside first (and it's quite a reach to get around the door panel openings and window frame). I also removed the door latch assembly to get enough room to get up there (and then clean/lube it). Leave the pushrods attached to the door handle assembly (you can't reach them and you'll have to have them on when you reinstall anyway). So I pulled the door handle out with the 2 pushrods still attached. You have to twist it just the right way thru many contortions but it does come out (you'll swear it doesn't look like it though). The lock cylinder is held onto the door handle assembly with a special clip (I had to remove the entire assembly to get at it though).

I have a similar problem after installing a aftermarket alarm system. It doesn't intermittently work it ALWAYS lock itself up after a couple of second if the door is unlocked no matter what. It's given me a hard time and I know it's not the aftermarket alarm system lock up. Might it be a simple fuse, a closed circuit that cannot be opened, or electrical connections causing this? Any ideas why I might find this?

Sounds like a setting on your new alarm, because I know mine does that, but it's set to do that. If you got a manual or booklet with your alarm you should look through it, it will tell you how to turn that option off. Or...you could do what I did and just keep pushing Unlock or OPT button until it stops. :p
