Alright...

I noticed when I picked up my '92 TSi AWD, that the Power/Economy switch didn't seem to have any effect, nor did it trip the lights in the gauge cluster. This means that even at WOT, it shifts out of 1st gear around 4,500rpm ... the only way to get it to shift at a higher point, is to pull it down into "1st".

A few stats...

Year: 1992
Make: Eagle
Model: Talon
Submodel: TSi
Drivetrain: AWD - Automatic
Engine: 4G63 - 6 bolt*

The transmission is the original, however the TCM has been replaced. (Which could be where it all went wrong, as the previous owner (read - idiot) was a useless git.) :banghead:

And before it even comes up (I've seen it in other threads), I am talking about the Economy/Power Switch, located ON the center console to the left and forward of the shifter ... NOT the Overdrive Switch located ON the shifter.

As of right now the engine is out of the car and being torn down for a rebuild. I really want to get this working properly as soon as the engine is back in. Any help, ideas, etc., would be appreciated. :aha:

*(it was one of the very last 6 bolts made, as it was made in April of '92, the month they changed to the 7-bolt.)

silly yet totally obvious thought... Did you make sure that the PWR /ECO switch was plugged in behind the center console?

Also, what lights are lit up on the gauge cluster? -There are two 1/4" x 1" OEM spots on the HUD that will show what mode your TCU is currently in ("Power" or "Economy"). The location is circled in red in the pic below... Are either of these lit up once the key is in the on position?

If so, I'd try pulling your TCU codes next:

Actually ... I haven't had the chance to check the connection yet, I will be tomorrow. As for the lights ... they don't light up, at all with the key in. That's what worries me...

ok, that could be a good thing then. They will not light up on my A\T car without that switch plugged in either. Check it & hope that the switch not being plugged in is the culprit... it's just 4 screws to pull up the top of the center console (2 under the ripped plastic strip and 2 under the arm rest).

I guess you could try to access it from the side of the console as well but you don't have room to access to the switch & plug directly.

Going to be heading over to work on it in the next few minutes here, so I'll have a chance to take a look. The sides of the console are already off so I should be able to peak in. Hoping it's just not connected, and that the git didn't cut anything out.

*^*^*%$%@***^^@^*$@^!

The moron just tore the wires right out. And the socket is just plain missing. Bleh...

I've got a diagram for the wiring already though, so I'm most likely just going to wire in a custom socket from work and reconnect it when we put the engine back in.

If anyone happens to have a main harness for sale though, I'm looking for one. That idiot hacked it up so much I don't even know where to begin.

WOW! Some people do the stupidest things. I feel for you on the wireing situation. If you find a harness I would be willing to buy the hacked up harness from you. I have a 5-speed harness and I cant figure out where or how to even get power to my TCU, od switch, or pwr/eco!

I could trade you a perfect never even spliced into 5-speed harness that you could sell or use for something for your hacked up harness.

PM me back if you still have it and your interested please. I'm in need of it really bad LOL.
