Hello,I'm helping my friend out with his 96 gsx swapped with a 6 bolt motor. We where in auto class when he was checking he ecu, to see if it was the eprom one or not, after checking it is not the eprom ecu.But then as we was putting the ecu back in he saw what look like a dimmer switch, and started looking up what it was used for and found potentiometer mod.Now his car not running right after hooking the ecu back up,now it don't wont to stay running,I heard that the ECM tuning v3 lite can help fix his problem.I know he don't have much money can he use my 95 tsi awd ecu with the v3 link in he car to see if it would help I have a 7 bolt motor.Any info would be grateful thanks.

I have no clue, but I would think that you should be able to swap in your ecu into his car and it should work. I thought the potentiometer mod was for the random misfire code?

That's what we read about the misfire, but if you turn the switch one way you can smell fuel real bad,and if you turn the switch the other way it will make the car stall out. So I guess I'm going to try my ecu to see if that helps with his car.

That mod hooks into the baro sensor.it can also cause a lean condition. I did my random mis mod just by unpluggin the tps.i know its deemed ghetto by some but it eliminates any misfire from the 1st gen cas.id unplug that pot. Mod if I was you

The pcm wont check for random misfires if the baro sensor is out of spec.thats why people do it dont turn it all the way either. There is a procedure online for setting it

We searched and searched and can't find anything on how to set it up right. I want have my car back till Oct. because I spun number 4 rod bearing,So ya'll think he can use my ecu with dsm link might help with his car.Till he can get his own dsm link.

You'll have to have your ECU socketed.

Is your friend running a 1G CAS? If so, then it's indeed the baro sensor signal that is going through that potentiometer. There is a better way to avoid the dreaded P0300, if you don't mind soldering.

NTE7404 for $3.75
NTE977 for $1.26

This signal inverter applies to 95-96 ECUs with a 1G or 97+ CAS:

My ECU is already socketed and has DSM link v3 lite,So it should be good to use in his then but I,don't know about the cas he just needs it to run so he can get to college for his classes

The pot mod works get a 5k just make sure you wire it right when you cut pin 85 take the wire from the engine side to the center pin on the switch the wire from the ecu side out it on the left or right side turn it a little bit and start the car then retime it and your good to go people say it makes the car run lean mine did a tiny bit but it runs 13 to 14.4 0n my wideband and thats good.
