Possible tranny problems need help fast!!

Just recently that ive noticed when im in reverse there is loud popping,clicking,clunking sounds coming from underneath the front seats maybe around the t-case (not sure) also when i shift out of first to second at wot around 7500 its like the shifter moves to were it needs to be but second gear is not there! now shifting normal it shifts like butter couldnt be better this is why im confused! and when slowing down around 10mph and under i can feel popping and clicking in the brake and clutch pedal im not sure where to look first please help!!! Well, if you are getting loud popping, clicking and clunking sounds, I would have to suspect that you have either tapered roller bearings failing, or that you have lost teeth off of one, or some gears in your transmission. I would strongly reccomending NOT driving the car anymore, removing the transmission, and having it sent to a professional for inspection and rebuild.

If it is your transfer case making all that noise, I would be very afraid for what can happen if it fails; i.e. locking up, sending you spinning into a wall, etc.



First off -- jack up the car, install jack stands, and drain the transmission and transfer case into separate oil trays. Inspect the drained fluid for damage, debris, silver color, etc.

Then inspect the trash magnet on the end of the drain plug for large chunks. If you have any chunks, it is more than likely going to have more still inside the part that is broken (tranny or transfer case).

It will more than likely be the transmission based on your shifting story.
