Possible Short?

So I just finished putting a new used auto tranny in my 91 laser rs and now I think there is a short somewhere because when the car is off, it doesn't have any power, the seatbelts won't even retract. Everything was fine before we put in the new tranny.

Also, the battery will not stay charged and slowly drains away while driving. Alternator is only 1 year old. Could it be possible that the battery is going? I don't think that's it since it worked perfectly fine before we pulled it out.

Just looking for some input and ideas on where a short could be if there even is one.

Yeah, check your voltage at the battery when the car is running. If it doesn't jump up to 14-16 volts you probably have a lost connection to the alternator.

Also double check all your ground straps, harness plugs that you disconnected to to the install, etc.

edit: be extra sure of all your grounds, could explain bad charge and lack of power when the car is off. Also check all your fuses thuroughly.
