So I am not one to jump the gun and blame every problem on crankwalk, but the motor is out of the car and when my buddy went to get the flywheel off, he pulled at it and the crank moves in and out about 1/16" with the flywheel still attached.

The motor is cold of course, and it has 136xxx miles on it. Is is most likely CW?

Any info and help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

There is a tolerance that the crank will move... I would search the allowed tolenance before you jump to conclusions.. The rods can't be so tight on the crank that it can't move

So I found this link, thought I would post if for everyone AWD Crankwalk Check

The specs are .002 - .0071 with an absolute max of .0098

Im pretty sure 1/16th of an inch is 0.0625 and that seems way out of spec LOL. Is my math correct?

Yep. Time for a 6 bolt swap.

And for everyone with the engine still in the car an easier and more accurate way to measure for crankwalk is: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/pro...-check-crankshaft-end-play.html#post151703279.

* time for a rebuilt 7 bolt with the proper precautions taken to prevent crank walk taken as long as it's the crankshaft moving, not they harmonic balancer. 7 bolts can take the abuse. If everyone swaps to a 6 bolt there will be none left for me when I need a rebuild ROFL

No 6 bolt swap for me, Im going to rebuilt the 7bolt. Maybe with some 6bolt rods.

About time someone didn't give in to a fad. The rods are the only thing your gonna be missing if would do the 6-bolt swap. 7-bolt>6-bolt

correct me if im wrong but isnt nearly every 2g affected by this? Some arent as noticeable because they are better maintained and not driven as hard? Mine was owned by an elderly gentlemen and it had 138,000 I never noticed the common problems ( crank angle sensor damage etc ) but I did notice a drop in oil pressure and the lifters making noise. I rolled in new rods and mains and this fixed it. It did have more side to side movement than necessary. If its not knocking why not just drop the oil pan and roll in some rods and mains w the motor in the car?

Ya that is a set of calipers (Digital in that pic not dial) and that is the completely wrong tool for measuring end-play. It can be used but that's shade-tree mechanic shit right there...

The one I used was digital as well. I've used that page for both my measuring and my current timing belt replacement job. Was also going to use it for the BES but I ran out of time so have skipped the BSE for now.

Any car can get, srt's are already known for getting it. Its just that early 2g's(and only 2g's) for some reason got it more than others. There are many theories to why it happenen but no real proof. BUT... it is WAY overrated.:barf:. Just that when rebuilt RIGHT they WONT do it again. Many say they have seen or had it, yet many do not know what it even is. I had my GSX walk, and now i have a 6-bolt bottom end in my car, but it dont mean i wouldn't stick a 7-bolt back in it. :ohdamn:
