posible 420a tranny problem.

i jusy bought a 97 eagle talon. it is a base modle with the 420a. i noticed that when i first got it it shifts diffrent from other a\t cars. then today after driving for a short distance, and hot roding alittle, it started to get that burnt metal smell coming from under the car, but there was no smoke, just the fried smell.
here is what it is doing.
1. the tranny is constantly trying to down shift when i barley inscrease the gas. and when it does this it seems like the car isnt realy going any faster unless i realy mash the gas.
2. it clunks when rolling to a stop about 50% of the time.
3. sometimes it dies when i let off the gas in reverse.
4. unless i am babying the car to the max, it wont shift until 6500 rpms. by babying the car i mean realy babying it.
5. sometime if i try to turn off the o\d it wont turn off. at least i think it wont because that o\d off light dosent come on.

Are you throwing any codes?

Torque converter maybe or I think A/t 's use speed sensors to monitor shifts and what's going on inside the transmission.

How many miles on the car? Do you know if it has had a fluid flush?

the car has 150000 miles on it. as far as a flush , yes it has. i did a tranny flush and filter change hopping it would get a little better , but it didnt do anything.
