Porters Performance crate Engines??

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

Why spend so much on a crate motor? You can save a bunch of money if you buy the parts separtely then have a reputable shop assemble it. Thats what im doing but yet I have spent a ton of money on all the best parts!

I second what SupremeDsm said, granted Porters seems like a legit shop, you are paying ALOT of money to have them do everything for you. Best way to go would be buy everything, and bring it somewhere local and have it done, can guarantee it will be alot cheaper(unless you get ripped off by the shop).

With 7 bolts being such a pain in the ass to build without having them crankwalk, I would'n't let a local shop build it. 6 bolt wouldn't be such a problem, but there are shops (Buschur, and others) that don't build 7 bolt motors for a reason. I would at least get the short block assembled by someone that has experience with 7 bolt 4G63s just IMHO.

Also JNZ tuning is in PA, good place to shop.

Who is this guy? :ohdamn:

I do agree that a crate motor is crazy expensive considering what you could do for that price to your own motor, but they do look great! :hellyeah:

To the guy above, stop talking. Crankwalk can only happen to your car.

Why are we suggesting a local shop? We're suppose to raise the level of education here, and everyone knows that the best education is hands on experience.

If you want it done for as cheap as possible, do it yourself but risk messing up or cutting corners as people tend to do. However, doing it yourself will allow you to learn easier/quicker and if you take your time you know that it will be done correctly. There are more than enough resources written out in near-coloring book detail, most of it available right here on this site.

Crate engines are a great cop out, but sometimes they are great to go with if you simply don't have the time to work on the engine yourself. Personally, however, I would never allow someone else to build an engine for me. I like to get my hands dirty and assure myself that what's done is done correctly.

Also, for the record - Crankwalk, really? Someone seriously just suggested that 7bolts are weak due to crank walk?

Crankwalk is overhyped.

"Check vendor feedback" would have been sufficient.

LOL, I didn't know posting a link back to your own site's vendor feedback section was a violation. CHECK THE VENDOR FEEDBACK SECTION before you think about giving these guys any money. Google them, and read what other forums have to say.
