ok the timing of my engine ruined my rebuilt head... yay... so if my valve seats are good enough im thinkin of having it fully ported and polished. now what im wondering is how far the intake and exhuast valves can be ported before they start striking the pistons. and how far the actual intake and exhaust ports can go also so i can give the proper specs to the machine shop. ive already heard some talk about 3-5 valves... would that also be a good thing to do with the porting job??

thanx :dsm:

Porting has to do with flow and tumble on intake side there are many forms on this do a search. i would recommend that u don't mess with the head unless u know a really good shop that does many dsms. the heads are so easy to make flow less then more and u could spend all the money and end up with a head that flows worse then it did before. if u are lookinf to have it done i would recommend jacksonautomachine they do a really good job.

I'd get a radius valve job and call it a day.

Oh, wait, you have an N/T. I wouldn't bother with anything then, sorry.

I normally don't bother with this but...........it's early and my day allready sucks. all you 420a haters out there suck. i have never said a bad thing about the 4g63. in fact i like the motor. and the fact is it takes a lot more work and money to make a 420a as fast as a 4g63. but that is the fun of it. I have spent a lot of time Trying to make my rs fast and it is not slow anymore. it's not fast by anymeans but it's not slow. and i just roasted a gst yesterday. point is, it is worth it to mess with a N/T. I hope you are looking at the tail lights of a 420a soon punk.

You should stick to not bothering with it. I wasn't trying to hate on n/t's. My "sorry" was not sarcasm although it may read that way since I was typing quick at 4am. You could have asked me to clarify instead of trying to prove how great your car is. I was giving an opinion that porting and polishing a 2g n/t head isn't worth the hassle most of the time. I was giving an opinion to save him time and money so he could maybe put those two things into other areas of his car or life where they might have more benefit.

"Sorry" for not spelling it out for you more.

ok i kinda understand you all are comin from, but im plannin more mods down the line, turbo, 600cc injectors. air fuel controller is in the line after this gets running again, so what im thinkin is if everything is ported to the right specs for most performance, then with the valves bigger allowing more air/fuel into the engine it would compress a bigger quantity creating more hp. i dunno if those mods would be more effective like that tho, like if the valves are already almost as big as they can get then there would be no point. if you all still see no point in doing it then ill just slap a pretty decent j yard head on there and call it a day... but i just wanna know by who all has done this to an n/t was it worth it, was there a considerable gain???

thanx all :dsm:

A good port and polish can really be expensive depending on how much work is done and the gains are not very big for the amount of money being spent. If you want to go turbo then just save that money and put it in the "turbo" pot for the future.

If you must have power now get nawwwsss.

cool, thanx everyone, ill just find a good head at a yard... LOL i don't wanna fry my rings with nos tho LOL with my luck that'll happen. but concept illusions makes somewhat good heads for the 420a eh?? price don't look too bad, anyone had any experience with em??

Good idea on the head (I hope that means that you will rebuild THAT head, right?). The money spent for the amount of power gained is not worth it for a street vehicle. These cars flow great stock. As for CI, they run hot and cold. I personally had a bad experience with them. Others have had good. If you look on the OTHER site (2gnt.com) you will see a continuing thread on there pros and cons. it appears that the owner Shaun is a pretty good guy who has over extended himself with quality and customer service taking the hit.

actually the yard head i will put on while my previously rebuilt one is being rebuilt. so my car isn't outta commission. so about CI, their price for the rebuilds isnt very steep eh? i seen them, and with the other stuff they do to em, it seems pretty reasonble. so thats probably what ill do is put a yard head on temp. and get the rebuilt, rebuilt LOL. well thanx all...
