I have a popping sound coming from the front of the car around the driverside while turning the wheel. I have replaced the axle and both lower ball joints on that side with no luck. The axle needed replaced anyway and so did the lower ball joints but now I want to get this popping noise fixed. The car is lowered on Tokico Blues and has 18s with 225 40s. I see no sign of rubbing. The car was aligned and inspected after installing the ball joints which I did around September. The goodyear shop that inspected it said nothing around that area was loose. What else could it possibly be?

This is the 98 GS.

K, I forgot to mention the outer tie rod end was replaced as well when the lower ball joints were replaced. I will check though.

The driverside halfshaft was replaced, and the popping was noticed before and after the install..

UPDATE- One more thing to add to my first post, the popping can also be heard while the car is stopped and you turn the wheel slowly.

You mean the part that bolts to the tower under the hood? I will check the bolts tonight. Also, checked the wheel play when the car was jacked up.. its solid.

I'll do that, I noticed every once in a while it will also do it when the car is sitting still and I turn the wheel slowly.. The problem sounds exactly like an Axle popping would sound. I will check the upper control arm over the weekend after Thanksgiving Thanks for all the help and suggestions guys.

this might sound completely out of the ordinary it is far fetched. BUT since most of these guys have pretty much said what it mostly could be. you also might want to check the bolt that clamps your steeringcolumn to your rack and pinion behind the intake maniford in the engine bay. its a clamp (black), that clamps around a shaft with vivid teeth to keep a decient bite that turns your wheels of the car as you turn the steering wheel iside the car. sometimes the clamping force comes loosedand it pops in the suspension area cause its slipping over the teeth as your turn the weel slow. (12mm bolt btw and dont go to tight your strip it as you tighten the bolt it tightens the clamp) its about 12 inchecs below the back of the intake manifold down on the real crossmember area stickin out, and you have to turn the weel a cirtan way to expose the bolt in order to get to it:talon:

this is based of a 1g car but i kno 2g are the say way in some way
