Pop up headlights

Ever since I got my car I couldnt figure out why my headlights wouldnt pop down. It always stays in the up postition and the switch doesnt close them. Any ideas?

Motors for your lights are bad?

is everything plugged in? if so when you hit the up/down button on the dash do you hear the motors trying to move them? if you do you should spray some wd40 on the joints and manually help the lights up and down to break the joints free. the adjusters are behind the lights with rubber caps on them, you twist them to move the lights up and down.

they adjust up and down manually with no problems. Is there a fuse or something?

Theres a Relay for them under the hood in the fuse box on the left, although i dont remember which one it is..i think its the third one over from the left on the bottom but dont quote me on that

nah, the relay is just for the motors, the headlights run off a seperate circuit

so can I try swapping the fog relay with the headlight motor relay cuz they look the same.

hey i had the same problem with my car. first open the hood and remove the rubber caps from the motors and have somebody turn the headlights on and if you see both of them spinning and making a whizzing like sound then your motors are good. Then check the fuse and relay just in case and if both of those are good. then all you need to do is put some wd-40 on the parts inside the headlight that move because they are probably rusted up in that position. But if your headlights motors are dead then go on ebaymotors to buy them cheap. i found 1 for like $10 a while ago.

but if there dead I wouldnt be able to manually adjust them right? Or I would have a hard time? Cuz it moves up and down manually easily.

motors move freely and they are both plugged in. How do I test the switch? Something somewhere is fubar

The gears from motor to the arm is probably striped.

if that was the case I wouldnt be able to move the headlights up or down manually right? Cuz they do move manually.

i think you can still manually move them up or down even if they are dead. i couldnt my move headlights up or down manually because they were rusted up in the position but on my sisters supra i could manually move the driver side headlight up and down and the motor is dead. So they are probably dead especially if you dont see the headlight motor top spin when you try to turn the headlights on.

damn... theres no way to fix that besides replacing them? I also tried to take out the relay in the engine compartment and the headlights went out...

If they both dont work but move freely to adjust its more than likly something electrical such as switch or relay. I can see both motors dying and the same time. try to send direct power to them with jump leads to bypass all switch and fuses. if they work you know its something electical then start working your way towards the switch. or you can use a test light to see if power is making it to the motors probably your smartest idea. have some one switch them on and off and see if you are even getting power to the connector thats the fastest way to see if its electrical or just the motors and if it is getting power to the connector try send direct power to the motor

HAHAHA, well after being a mechanic for 5 years on fords you tend to get into a lot of that and anyone who has a lil common sense would check for power to the "broken" part to see if that might cause it. anyway I know a ton about mustangs and engines in general just am not that great at wording it all out in a good order as you noticed back and forth above.
