Poor Mans backpurging

Dont burn through and you wont need to back purge. :) Never heard of anyone doing this with exhaust.. except the extremists cars that are so immaculately clean and shiny they dont even run.

I'm assuming it's becuse it uses much less argon this way.

One issue I see is when the pipe gets hot enough and melts the glove.

A true poor man's way to shield the inside of the weld is to use flux paste.

yep, a half quart of solarflux-b is 60 bucks but will last for years and is just as good as purging, or else they wouldn't permit it on nuclear facility pipe welding.. I quit back purginga long time ago, plus you can flux a sheet to sheet weld, lay it over a small box shaped dish you can make from scraps and weld without sugarging on that as well, purging is old hat IMO

yes I am a fan of solar tybe b flux mixed with methanol. So I mock it all up either tack or blue tape it together then mark and brake it all down, flux the back side of the welds and weld it all up.
