POLISHING Valve Cover

well actually im on my 2nd valve cover. The 1st one that cracked and is semi-polished is just laying around pickin up dust which ill practice on.

But wat about the CAM GEARS cover? i feel that something has to done with that to blend with the shiny valve cover.

i think the cover comes in package with the valve cover chrome on ebay but ill check anyway. thanks

I'd be surprised to see a real powdercoated cam gear cover, seeing how they're made of plastic and you have to bake powdercoated items at 400* in an oven, not to mention the last time I heard, plastic doesn't conduct electricity so how would the powder 'adhere' to the cam gear cover?....you have to ground the items to be coated. :p who know's, maybe I'm just an idiot? I doubt it though.... :D

I've heard that it is possible to powdercoat plastic. I believe they use a different powder that sets at a lower temp. I don't know about the magnetizing though. Could be wrong, but I do think its possible.

Ummm, plastic has no conductivity to it.

You can't powder coat plastic, atleast not in the true method. Since, the item must be metal and able to withstand 400 degrees of heat, not to mention conduct electricity. Basically, you guys are right... high temp. engine paint works well though.

well.....here you go. This company says it can powdercoat anything, including plastic, don't know how, but they say they can do it.

here's the link

so there :p
I'm sure they would powder coat whatever you want, but they are more or less set up to powder coat large quanities of parts. So they would probably charge lots of $$$ for a single part. If you read their info, they do some kind of dip or spray to non metalic parts. I think that it would be easier to get rid of the gear cover or fab one yourself.

i grinded all the letters off my valve cover and polished it, it looks great, would look even better if i spent more time on it because i had to get it in my car and didnt have time to do a full sanding of it

i can do anyones cover for them if they want, ill grind all the letters off and completely polish it for....100 dollars?
ill post pictures of mine tomorrow, it looks pretty good but i should have spent more time on it, which i would do if it was someone elses valve cover, or ill give you money back

I'll be interested in seeing those pictures, especially with that kind of price... I polish and grind for $135... here's one that wasn't ground...

Good luck with your polishing/grinding business... let me know when you post those pictures...

One more thing, I assume your price includes shipping back to the person like mine?

Not really... I'm actually interested in seeing your pictures. I definitely don't mind a little friendly competition.

I know you know what you're doing but if you have a question about polishing or anything down the road, just send me a message at [email protected].

Good luck with it man.:thumb:

hah, its obvious im not polishing flex master pimp, as ive only done my valve cover, but for the little time i had to work on it i really think i did a damn good job

(hehe i also did a good job of putting a 3 inch scratch in it when putting my radiator in ;)

but seriously if anyone did send me theres i would guarantee it lives up to their standards or they can send it back and i will refund some of their money and even pay for shipping both ways
