I am finally ready to buy a logger. I have been reading for a month about types, brands, and ease of use. Now that I am ready to buy a data logger I hit a road block, digital tuning inc discontinued their pocketlogger. Now what?

Any one know where else I can buy a pocketlogger with the software and cable? I have spent most of the afternoon searching with no luck at all. I do have an palm m100.

The best bet is to go evoscan and get the cable from that site... ive heard that the ebay cables work good also... Or you can get the free MHIcan from ceddy and buy a cheap cable from ebay and use that....

I'm on Mitsubishi OBDII DataLogger - EvoScan right now. Which cable do I need, or what would you suggest? Looks like there are a few options for obdII. $20 for the evoscan software sounds like an ok deal too.

Buy Evoscan, but skip their cable. It's $117 and you can get one that's over 100 cheaper. I got my cable on ebay for $13.88 shipped and it works great. Look for a Vag Com KKL cable, it's a USB cable with the FTDI chip. They will have it listed for cars such as VWs / Audis. On a DSM it works exactly like the Evoscan cable; you don't need the Evoscan cable since that's also for reflashing Evo ECUs.

Thanks I bought my palm m100 because of what you had written in another post. Looking around on that site I was kinda confused, it looked like I had to buy pieces of the cable to make it work. Then I noticed our inspection computer at work ( for obdII state inspections ) had a portion of the plug I needed. I called the dmv thinking I could save a couple bucks, heck might even get it free, just tell them I lost or broke the old connector. The dmv idea didn't work so I dropped the idea.

I have a M105 palm from my last dsm logger set up but lost the program when the batteries died, so i went on the site above to try to download the logger program and once downloaded the program wouldn't open on my PC. I figured if I could get this to work, i would just have to go on EBAY and buy a $25 cable and i would have a pocket logger up and running. BUT NO SUCH LUCK, any ideas? BTW: i'm ok with using a computer but kinda unsure about downloading, up loading and all the more indepth basics

It should be in a zipped file where ever you saved it to. You have to go into it and open/unzip the files.

Sorry i'm semi computer illiterate, could you give me some instructions on how to unzip the files? Thank you for your help.

LOL
This is not good. So am I.
Do the search on your computer and find where it is saved. It should be a file that looks like it has a "zipper" in the middle. I think you have to left click on it and an option will be to "unzip"/extract files. I can't remember what to do then. :coy:

Ok i was able to load the program onto my wife's palm, but then i remembered that some palm "zire" models won't work. I researched and found a site that has all of the compatible pda's to work with dsm logger programs and her palm Zire 31 will not work according to the list. I still have my M105 which will work, but it's acting up, it was repeatedly beeping once it turns on as if the screen or one of the buttons is stuck, so that option is out as well. Thankfully i found two local sellers in my area selling palm M125, which will work with tunerstien logger program, but i'm not sure they are selling the CD with the palms.

I'm worried if I buy one of these used palms and i don't have the install CD my PC might not recognize the M125 palm as it does my wife's Zire? I looked through 9 pages on EBAY and found no one selling an install cd for a M125.

Does anyone know where to get a install cd for a palm M125? Thanks for any help guys!

Palm.com : Support: Message)

Will this work??

sorry the link doesn't work, but it looks like you can download the software from palms site for any one that is in need of a palm install CD.

If you google "palm m125 install cd" and then click on the second link that says "palm.com: support" and then under m series click on "Palm m125" on the Home tab, the first option is "Palm desktop 4.1.4 and hotsync manager for windows"
Hope this helps someone, i'll let you all know if it worked once i get my new palm.

Sorry i'm not trying to hi-jack this thread, but i figure with all of these knowledgeable loggers in here i might be able to get mine up and running with out starting a new thread.

The M125 that i'm getting looks like it uses a usb style conector to hotsync/charge etc. The logger cable that I plan on buying from ebay connects to a PDA via a male end serial conector. So I'm assuming that i'll have to run a adapter cable to convert the serial connector into a the USB connection. I found some on ebay but the serial connector on the adapter cable is also a male end serial connector? USB 2.0 TO RS232 SERIAL DB9 9 PIN CABLE ADAPTER GPS FTA - eBay (item 330303431836 end time Apr-25-09 22:07:15 PDT)

So my question is: How are people with Palm M125 style PDA's connecting to their logger cables and what adapters are needed if an and where can they be bought. Thanks guys, this is really a pain rounding up all of this stuff but I'm well aware of the benefits of a pocket logger and must have one for my set up. I would get dsmlink but i don't have a laptop either and that makes that tunning/logging tool way out of my budget. Thank you guys for all of your help, I would be screwed with out this site and its members!

Would this work?

You can't use Logger Cables with the USB Palms.
The USB port the Palm has isn't a controller, its a device.
The only thing you can use the Palm's USB for is HotSyncing.

So how would i conect a Palm M125 style pda to my OBD1 connector under my dash to log?

Would i have to buy one of these serial hotsync cables in addition to a logger cable? Sorry buy this is making me highly confused? Hotsync Cables

I just wanted to be able to use my old palm m100 for logging. I knew I should have held on to the MUT when our Mitsubishi shop sold out, that thing would/could do everything. We also had a Co-pilot ( I think that's what it was called) that plugged into the dlc and recorded data, no display but it was easy to use, I should have held on to that one too.:ohdamn:

Hi-jack all you need, no sweat I'm learning new things.

I've been watching ebay all day waiting for an inexpensive laptop just for logging

Man I swear on the pocketlogger site I saw nothing but logging cables/programs for 1g's, now I didn't pay much attention to it but there were cables galore, nada for a 2g save for a hotsync cable or 2

So i bought my Palm M125 today and i was able to load the "Palm 'n' Stein" logger program to it, BUT... when i click on the palm 'n stein program on my palm home screen to open it, then at the registration page hit "done" then it says " Choose your interface" with a list of features (not items to log) and i can select or de-select but then i have no way to proceed! Is this because i don't have a logger cable connected to the cradle, which i would doubt??? How do i proceed? I would like to go into the palm 'n stein program and make sure it works before i go an order any cables to connect to my obd1 port. Any knowledgeable help is GREATLY appreciated!!!

Yeah USB on the Palms is a no-go and if your Palm ONLY has USB, it's not useable for logging. You need serial with the Palm.
PDA Compatibility List
This site shows that the Palm M125 is good for the logger programs. It has a usb connector on the end of the cradled but there is a cell phone like connection where the bottom of the palm plugs in to the hotsync craddle. I was thinking the ebay logger cable should work with this hotsync cable: Serial Hot Sync Cable for Palm m500 m505 m515 m125 m130 - eBay (item 130294304810 end time Apr-15-09 22:26:46 PDT)

Any feedback is appreciated, Thank you,
Travis

In case anyone is interested. My Vag Com KKL cable (usb to obdII) came in the mail last night and included in the package is a 1/2 disc I assume for loading usb info to a lap top. I was kind of supprised I got it so fast as the ad says delivery may take 21 days, cable looks to be ok quality as well.

My fingers are now crossed in hopes of this working.
