I just purchased a used plx sm-afr with the dm-5 gauge from the classifieds and it did not come with a 2.1mm power cord. I am installing the wideband in the stock o2 location and plan to simulate the narrowband with dsmlink. I read this installation article from PLX and I am completely confused.

1. The SM-AFR accepts 12-18V DC for power. Connect the negative wire (black) to your vehicle’s ground. This is usually the
negative terminal of your automobile’s battery. Connect the positive wire (red) to your vehicle’s ignition power. This power
is only supplied when your key is turned passed a specific position and is off when your key is removed. Your power
connection must be capable of supplying at least 3 amps of current. A 5-7 Amp fuse is recommended for safety.
*If you plan to integrate the SM-AFR Plug and Play with other aftermarket devices by utilizing the analog output signal wires. Make
sure that the negative wire (black) is connected as close as possible to your device's ground. This guarantees that both devices "see"
the same reference ground and a more accurate interpretation of the output voltages will be achieved. Please refer to the PLXApp
notes online for more information.
2. Locate the 2.1mm Power plug. Unscrew the plastic cover and insert it into the red/black power wires.
3. Solder or crimp the red power wire to the CENTER of the connector. (12-18V)
4. Solder or crimp the black power wire to the SHIELD of the connector. (GROUND)

The plug from the gauge has a red, black, and grey wire that needs to be wired and I assume the black is ground and the red is ignition? It says to "Locate the 2.1mm Power plug. Unscrew the plastic cover and insert it into the red/black power wires." I am not sure what they mean but that. If I were to solder or crimp a wire to the center or shield of the connector how would i be able to plug it in to the sensor module? I feel as if i'm confused about something that is most likely not complicated at all.

I know this post is over a week old but this info might be useful to someone. The 2.1mm power wire is only used if you are running the SM-AFR module by itself without the gauge (for logging purposes). If you are using the DM-5 gauge with it then the control module gets its power from the gauge's power supply and the 2.1mm wire is not used.

After looking at the wires I had coming from the analog output there was a wideband, narrowband, and a ground that is connected to the wb and nb wires. There was also the serial wire from the gauge. There was no power wire so I went to radioshack and picked up the 2.1mm power plug and soldiered the wires to it and wired the 2 ground wires to the ecu harness ground. Plugged it all in and it works great. The only thing is dsmlink isn't always showing the exact same thing as my gauge but very close. I bought the correct capacitor and I was wondering if I should connect them from the wb-ground and nb-ground near the ground. Would that help even level it out?

I'm bringing this back because I'm completely confused on where to hook everything up. I've read the instruction and searched and searched here and on ecmlink. Google too. I just don't do to well when it comes to wiring and I don't want to fry anything. I have V3 and want to simulate my narrowband.

How do I wire it up for that? Since I have the DM I wouldn't use the 2.1mm power wire. I need to splice into the NB o2 wires for an input (since I'll be doing the narrowband sim) I'm not sure where to splice the 0-5 analog wire and the 0-1 analog wire to where?? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

So I just unwrapped the tape because the previous owner had done something with the the caps, and I'm even more confused. I read this http://www.tricktuners.com/TT Pictures/PLX user manuals/SM-AFRUsersGuide.pdf and it says the red is power and the black is ground and the caps go between the WB, NB and ground wire. I only have three wires. Red, black and grey. It also says the red is analog 0-5v, not power. Heres a picture. I hope it helps clarify things. PLEASE HELP!! I need to get this WB installed!!
