I've recently begun collecting the parts to start my 2.3 project. First thing i bought was a brand new mitsu crank that had been balanced. Now my question here is the balancing job that was done.

In the first 2 pics you can see that they got too close to the side wall on the counter weight and actually took part of it out. There was alittle more material there when i first got it but as soon as i touched the crack the material crumbled.

I'm not a machinist or engine builder but this does not look acceptable to me. I've called and spoken with the company i got this from and they are insisting that it's perfectly fine. But first they said it was "factory", which is BS, and said im supposed to just "clean it up a bit" before i install it. This is all from the the balancing job they did. I wont mention who i bought this from quite yet as they have a pretty good rep and im hoping they live up to it.

I guess what im asking is for opinions on this. I dont feel it acceptable in the least. This crank wont be going in my motor. I told them it needs to be returned and that i want a refund. The only thing ive done is open the bag it came in. It's still brand new.

Ya that crank is complete BS. I knor anyone here would use that crank.

The only way to solve that would be to get the crank Butchered, They will cut off a good deal of the counterweights and knife edge the sides. Its a well worth it process as it helps the engine rev much easier, produces more power, and allows you to rev higher. Check out FFWD if your interested.

I'm familiar with the butcher crank. It's a sweet looking piece though i have yet to hear any reviews on it.

This crank cost over 700 shipped to my door. It was extra to have them balance it and do these things to it. I shouldn't have to go spend another 600-700 with FFWD just so i can use it.

I would send it back to them and have a new one shipped out to you. I would not accept that knowing its a new crank I paid good money for.

It's only a balance lobe, and will have no effect on the crank. I'd not worry about it.

Ask a local machinist for his opinion and go with that. It's a bit untidy, but otherwise shouldn't be an issue.
