Alright, so spring time is here, and this is usually the time of year I pick my car up out of the shop, because usually I do the modifications that are going to cause downtime in the winter, when I wouldnt drive much anyway.

Regardless, my problem is, the car isn't running right, and I have no idea why.

I just had a 14b, 550cc injectors, a FMIC, and EGT installed. I changed my blow off setup to blothru, with GM MAS. Theres a MAFt installed as well as an SAFCII.

the problem is, the car will start(after a bit) but it doesnt run right and it's throwing a CEL. When we check to see what CEL it's throwing, it's saying that theres no MAS signal. In turn, this is making my car run extra lean, since the CEL is making the ECU go into safe mode. The EGT's are reading rediculously high as well, so obviously something's up.

I talked to another guy, and he said the only way to getthe car to run right is to get a keydiver, but I didnt think I needed a keydiver to run this setup.

Has anyone else had similar problems in a 2g going to this setup or can anyone think of what could be wrong? All I can think of is maybe the MAfT is wired up wrong...or the GM MAS is bad and needs to be replaced...as soon as the car sees an airflow signal it'll run like a dream with good tuning im sure...PLEASE HELP!

First, check the connector between the translator and the factory airflow connector. You should zero your SAFC and use dial 1 on your MAFT to adjust for injector size. Also be sure the dip switches are set correctly for your setup. The airflow sensor may be bad as well, be very careful "cleaning" as the little wires in the sensor can be damaged.
You don't need a keydiver chip, what you have should work well.

There should be 5Vdc on 1 pin of the GM MAF connector (3pin). If that isn't present, check that the LED flashes when you turn a dial on the MAFT. If the LED doesn't flash, check you connections to be sure the MAFT is getting power. After that, the easy way to test is parts swap with a friend. Hope some of this helps,

Nope. Ray nailed it on the head.

thanks again ray, we think the MAFt is wired up wrong, which obviously would cause big time problems like the ones im having now...lets hope tomorrow is a better day and brings a running powerful DSM...then ill post some pics up!!

haha!

Check your ecu and make sure the capacitors are not leaking as well. That caused my car to run crazy. 1g's are more prone to it happening, but yours might have a eprom ecu as well.
Hope this helps

ECU isn't leaking, and the car is still running SUPER LEAN

when i say super lean, i mean like, the EGT's are way over 1200, and i'm not really trying to melt any pistons...

should the MAFt be setup for MAF mode or RPM mode? I don't know what does it but I know as soon as the car starts getting a MAS signal it'll run great...the EGT's are just too hot...if I try and take it down the street and bring it back it gets damn near 1500, theres no way I can drive with my EGT's like that

i don't know why the hell the computer isn't getting a MAS other than two reasons...either the ECU is bad, and isn't getting a reading regardless of being hooked up or the MAS is bad, because the translator is coming on, it blinks with adjustments and all.

so how do i test the MAS to see if its even working? i know for SURE once the car gets to see airflow then it'll be fine, the EGT's will drop, and i can actually tune the damn thing...please guys any help would be appreciated...
