:cry: Im goin to get to the point, Ok i bought a car from a guy in new jersey , on the way home it started smokin extremely bad but still boosted, so he took it back replaced the seals and got a new turbo, and its startin to smoke again lightly after ive been at idle for a few seconds, now along with the other million problems, its popping out of third, the car is shutting for for no reason, and ive even shut off the turbo timer thinkin that was the problem, and when i come to stops it idles really low and has stauled numerous times, please help and dont bash for my stupidity to purchase cars,.....

oh btw i live in central maine, yes maine, there are NO! performance shops or anything of the sort like that around, so i cant get a machanics opinion, they just keep askin if its the fan still runnin after it stauls...??? LOL
 
im not an "expert" but the smoking may be valve seals or the pcv system. the poping out of gear may be the motor mounts, you should check to see if they are verry worn.
how many miles are on that car?
 
there are 134,000 on it and im goin to be adding a FMIC injections and fuel pump and rasing the boost what do i need to do for supporting mods?
 
I can't even BEGIN to speculate until you give us more information.

change your fuel pump, that will make car do that, but description is very veige so i can t help to much, just from what you described you could have a cloged fuel pump and its starven the engine for fuel, mine would want to die when i started it and it was warming up at idle, had to hold pedel down to keep it alive, my other friends would want to die at stoplights idle high, then want to die, both problems were solved by replacing the fuel filter. use fram.

said before, but check if you're venting to the atmosphere. how to do it? right next to the BOV there is a tube that goes into your intake arm. make sure that is connected.

the fuel pump doesn't sound like a bad idea. or you can try to adjust your idle with the IAC screw.. just remember how many times you screw it when adjusting [ in case you fudge things up ]
 
hks sequential bov, injen intake, spec stage 3 race clutch, autometer boost/oil temp gauges with pillar, greddy turbo timer, autometer cobalt 5" 10k tach, b&m short shifter, apexi n1 downpipe, n1 exhaust all 3in with 5in apexi muffler, new plugs and wires


those are the curent mods

anyone have any ideas why its smoking,
 
So many things it could be.... wish we could look at it ourselves.

what color is the smoke? (white could be coolant leak) from previous exp. with coolant leaks. could be your bov but that wouldnt cause a ton of smoke. pcv valvs. mabey?

If it smokes after it idles a few minutes it is almost definitely the valve seals going bad.

Dont mod untill the basics are fixed;) or the basics wont be so basic. expecially after modding. That will only complicate things..... IMO

thanx guys, i went to the online street type shop around and they dont install anything, so they sent me to some shawns auto body and the guy told me its a waste of time to mod a car with 130,000 on it cause itll just die..... god i cant wait to get outa maine!

Sounds even more like valve seals now that you told us it goes away after driving a few minutes. Definitely get the basics down before you start modding. Make sure the motor is mechanically sound (fix the valve seals), good tires all around, brakes must be up to par, and make sure suspension isn't worn out. I am dying to put a big turbo on my Galant but I know I need to sort out the brakes and struts before making it any faster. No one likes to do the maintenance stuff but it really needs to be done. You don't build a new house on top of a sinking foundation, right?

good call thanx it goes in the garage tommoro and ill let u guys know whats up, also my cluth pops out of third every once and a while and this mornin it was really cold here in maine and i have to go down the road(im driving it as little as i can) and it popped out of third and fourth mostly when i was coasting but when it warmed up it stop, someone told me i need to bleed the clutch, also should i look into a new tranny? do they sell them built? and how effective are lsd's on my car sorry for the 21 questions just tryin to leave about, the 4g63's, im used to be a 420@ guy, ........ nuff said
 
Sounds like it is time for a trans rebuild too. I do my own so I can't recommend anyone from firsthand experience but John Shepard and TRE both have good reps. If you've got the money, defintely do the LSD while your at it.

how much is a rebuild? btw today it started makin a loud winding noise in reverse then as i started to downshift and decelerate.... ####in lemon..... theres also liquid along my exhaust underneight the driverside.....

anyone know how much valve seals are and any mods i should do while im right there, and the closest place i can get a tranny or rebuilt preferably stronger than stock.... i live in maine, 4 hours from boston.....:barf: man so far my 4g63 experience has been hell and back..... please help me so i dont go N/A again....
 
if it was your seals the smoke would be blue....i konw this cause of personal experience..
you know what you could do (probably not cost effective) get the 6bolt swap done i did cause (talk about lemons) my car died after 400 miles after i bought it (timing belt went bye bye)...

blue smoke could be cause of bad valve seals, worn out valve guides or blown turbo seals....
on my car after i did the whole 6bolt swap i found out that the head i had on my new engine had worn out valve guides so it smoke a lot of oil so much that i had to put a quart of oil in it every 150 miles. I did some calling around for new guides and valves and it turns out that it was cheaper for me to get a new head from www.slowboyracing.com than to rebuild it myself.....

It sounds to me like a good portion of your problem is your vented BOV. Grey smoke is unburnt fuel or carbon. Valve seals leak oil into the chamber and oil burns nothing but blue smoke unless it was a very slight leak in one cylinder in which case I wouldn't even worry about it.

Tranny poping out of gear is most definately a trans problem. Chances are you will need a rebuild.

Best thing to do is hook up with a DSM member who lives close to you that knows what they are doing and have them go over the car. I have done this for a few guys before and I find problems almost everytime. Generally somebody who has been there done that with DSM's can fix your BIG (usually little) problems easily.
 
hey guys thanx ive decided to hold off on doing a valve job cuase the smoke is light and grey not blue at all..., so im gonna drive it till it dies then do a 6 bolt swap i supposed along with the engine can u swap the tranny's to or are the 2g trannys stonger.... , im wondering this becuase i found a parts car that someone has that has a blown clutch (92 gsx) and im goin tonight to try to talk bussiness with them because its just rotting in there back yard.... so im wanderin if i should take that tranny and if it will go in without mods
 
oh yea sorry, its a 95 tsi fwd... i like the motor cuase its really stong way faster than my 2 buddies tsi awd's and its runnin on about 75 percent of its motor worth cuase of the manifold leak....
also are slicks an option like wife ones and were can i get them....
i cant get traction for shit
 
you cant use a AWD tranny on a FWD for obvious reasons.
If you get this parts car you wil need a flywheel to go with your car.

PS. i have an extra ACT Xact flywheel brand spanking new....:D
