Please help with Cyclone

Ok, here's my deal, I got a used cyclone intake a while back, but the diaphragm is busted...no good.. I wanna find a way to actuate the butterflies still, as to take advantage of what the manifold has to offer. I want some ideas as how to incorporate a servo-electric spring loaded device to actuate the runners, and maybe a 12v relay switched by the EGR circuit, seeing how its only activated during part-throttle. Its off during idle and WOT, so the spring would hold runners open, and then under part-throttle close them with the EGR, correct? I know somebody has an idea of how to wire something up like this. Or just let me hear opinions on this.

I found in the tech article how to install the cyclone intake manifold but I don't have the white vacuum canister that is suppose to come with it. Does anyone know where I can get one or something that would work, Place and part number would really help, please and thanks in advance!

Do the cyclone intake manifolds even FIT the 2g head? Im assuming you have a 1g head. Im not even trying to rig up vacuum lines and such. Look for another post from me when you search 'cyclone intake'

I bought it off a guy that had listed that it would fit a 2G. I want to use it to its full potential, no point if I don't.

hey does any1 know what turbo and injectors and any else that is different in an AUtomatic jdm cyclone 4g63 vs. a manual jdm cyclone?

its all the same as usdm stuff only the variable "cyclone" manifold. Some models got the yellow top injectors and 16g but they are few and far between.

THe auto has smaller injectors and cams, but otherwise the same. Same as usdm.

i thought the automatics had a smaller turbo..??

Everything is the same except intake manifold, red valve cover and the thermostate housing. Unless you get the rare EVO3 motor which has the yellow injectors (510cc) and the 16g turbo.

i just ordered a JDM 4g63 because mine took a crap all over the place, but anyway, You mentioned changing the thermostat housing, i had never heard that before, do i just take the housing off mine or do i modify the JDM one?

Ultimatedsm- the yellow injectors and the big 16G turbo dont come off an EVO 3, they are off the 90-92 JDM GVR4 RS model. :talon:

Ultimatedsm- I forgot to mention a real EVO 3 motor does not have the red valve cover it has a titanium like color, and the intake manifold looks similar to that of a sencond gen dsm. ps sorry if it looks like i'm picking on you Ultimatedsm but i'm tired of people spreading wrong information on the EVO and the GVR4 motors. :talon:

evo valve cover looks like this.. FYI :dsm:

umm ok so not to steal this thread at all but my valve cover looks like that ????? and i just bought my car???? do i have a evo motor??? (oh please oh please oh please LOL) :dsm:

edit: seriously though could my motor be an evo motor? The first thing i did when i got my motor was replace the valve cover gasket. The valve cover looked like it had never been off and the seals were so dry-rotted to make me think they had never been replaced either. Would the evo valve cover fit my engine? I know they are both 4g63 just wondering if there is like different bolt placement or something? Lastly is there and easy way to check the numbers on it or something? Please some-one make me very happy and tell me i do have it LOL :dsm:

Well it is possible that you do have the motor. A couple of things to look for are the injectors ( which should be 510cc) and the turbo which is the E316G. The evo motor is also a 7 bolt motor so keep that in mind. Not to burst your bubble but the evo valve cover will fit a 2g head so it is possible that it was just changed. There are also some other differences in the motors but i dont wanna go into drastic detail if you dont even meet the above mentioned criteria..LOL.. need to know more just PM me and we can talk :dsm:

Does anyone know where to pick up the white vacuum canister for the cyclone manifold installation. I have searched and searched on here, dsmtalk, galantvr4 and noone can help yet. I am just waiting to install it, I have the hobbs switch and everything else. Please can someone help me out or tell me something I can use instead. This is driving me crazy, please help!!!

From RRE:
"There is no "Cyclone Motor" The long blocks from Japan are the same year for year as the US motors. They will usually have the Cyclone intake manifolds on them. This is just a dual runner (similar to Toyota's TVIS system) intake manifold that gave a little better bottom end power IF you have all the electronics to properly actuate the butterfly valves. Also there are clearance issues between the Cyclone manifold and the larger US A/C compressor. Yes you can use it, but not really worth the hassle. Some manifolds will say "Cyclone" on them but not have the dual runner butterfly system. The timing belt upper covers sometimes can be slightly damaged from shipping, also the igniter or coil pack may be damaged. This usually happens in the shipping container on the boat ride from Japan."

It would appear that the term "Cyclone" has about as much import there as the terms "Grand", "Super", and "DeLuxe" do here.

yeah, i have read that. i just now am realizing that i don't have the intake manifold with the other set of butterflies. i have the one that is the same as the 1g, it just says cyclone. that is the only difference. it's not a three-piece with the other butterflies like i thought. thanks though.
