97 gsx wont stay running after warm up, took it to shop for a diagnostic they came back with all sensors are good but ecu is shutting down making it run rich, so i got another ecu and its doing the exact same thing. before i took it down there i thought i might have it nailed down to either power transistor or bad coil pack, when plug wires are pulled i do have spark in all 4 and all the plugs aftter being run for a while smell like gas from not being burned. i did check the coil and what i came up with was secondary was well within spec but primary was like .01 which is way off wasnt sure if i did it right cause like i said i do have spark. I need to get this figured out cause the wife is getting pissed and is wanting me to get rid of it, and i just got the darn thing. And if i were to swap the transistor or coils for my 97 could i use parts from any turbo 1g and 2g. Any ideas please help.

do you have or checked for any air leaks? Made sure all electrical connectors by, near, dealing with the intake side connected?

yes, i have gone thru several times looking for leaks tightening everything as i go along checking all my vacum lines. I was thinking the transistor and the coil, cause i tested the coil primary as bad not sure if i did it right and when checked the plug for the transistor it had a little bit of that greenish corrosion on a couple of the pins

Man you live in perfect gsx country,no way you should get rid of it.Do you have a logger?Try with a coil pack like you said, definatly don't get rid of it man.Don't make her feel like shes not part of it,make her feel involved.Replacing parts is always a great excuse to upgrade,of course after you have her running.I know what I'm talking about. My wife bought my my 90 tsi awd last year and I just got her to sell her car so i can have a galant vr4.:sneaky: .Now i got her driving the vr4 talking about evo iii 16 g's :thumb: .If it's not your daily driver and you can put it on ice till the wifey calms down, that might be a good idea.If not,pin point the problem and if you can't fix it,take it to somebody who can.good luck.Don't get rid of it man, fight the power :dsm:

greenish corrosion is never a good sign, replace it and see if that works. also check your plugs, wires, and other simple things that may have passed you by.

Yes thats what i thought but the guy at the shop said those rarely go bad so that wasnt it, now i just need to find one, can i use one from a 91-94 i think they are also the 7 pin but they have different part numbers. And i have changed the wires and have tried a couple types of plugs to be sure it wasnt a cheap fix

If you have a coil that is out of spec it can cause the power transistor to overheat after awhile. When the impeadence of the primary coil goes down the current needed to fire it goes up, placing more demand on the transistor pack. Im not saying this is your problem but it sounds likley. I would replace the coil and see what happens. If possable replace both. Good luck.:dsm:

Ok i have a coil and transistor on the way, while im waitng is there anything else i should check. I know the last time i brought it home while i was driving it was trying to die and the light were getting dim then would come back, i've checked voltage at the battery and alternator when car is running and they are both fine, where are all the grounds on these cars.

Yes, that greenish crap corrosion is not a good thing.

Something that happened to me a couple of years ago...had a battery go bad and start to "boil" out the solution in the battery. Thought I had it all cleaned up but evidently some of the corrosion started to track through the cables, mainly the one that goes to the fuse box, started to act really weird when hot...tach would fluctuate, instrument light would randomly come on/off, ramdomly die. Took it down to a buddy, fortunatly before it made it to the fuse block. He had to splice in new cables from the battery out.

Ok also on the battery and corrosion deal i notced my big wire going to the + side has kind of a teal looking color going down it about 6-8 inches. Could this cause some of these problems and where is the other end of that wire.

What other sensors aould cause it to just die after it warms up. Does the ECT sensor only affect the car when cold, would an O2 sensor cause it to die. Im just trying to get an idea of what all these sensor might cause this without replacing every one in the car. If the car would throw a code it would make life a whole lot easier because i do check after every time i run it.

While im waiting for my coils and ignitor to come in im checking some other stuff. The mechanic said the ecu was getting the signal from all the sensors but he wasnt getting the signal back from the ecu, but it's not the ecu because we've already swapped in a good one.

Ok i got a new ignitor/power transistor and still it dies on me. Ran fine till warm up than if i did not give it gas it will just sputter and die, if i do give it gas it will sputter the rpm needle will drop done all over the place down to zero than come back up, and even though im just letting it idle when it starts to sputter the factory boost gauge moves a little bit. I got some coils coming in the mail but why wont my car stay running

didi you check your honey comb? did you hack it in any way? Did you check to make sure that the nut on the small wire on the alternator is on tight?

this most likely isnt it, but have you checked the alternator fusable link??? its an easy check and easy fix, it cost me like 3.50 max...

it could be the alt. fusible link but i know when mine went i had no power locks or windowsunless my car was running but it did sputter if i tried to drive it and at idle but i have a 1g and i'm not sure if it is different
