Car : 1992 eagle talon tsi fwd 5spd.

Probem:

There was an aftermarket cd player in my car. The brand was an eclipse.(not the car).
With this cd player, There was an alarm installed also, There was no buttons for the alarm to go on or off. The only way it would go off is if the cd player was stolen.Therefor, The alarm would not go off if the car was broken into, It would only activate if the cd player was taken. When I first got it, I hadto start the car and put the fuse in under the hood for the alarm so the cd player would work, If i did it while the car was turned off...The alarm would go off.

They hard wired the cd player right to the harness(not using the little 15dollar adapter).
So I took out the cdplayer, And also the alarm. Underneat the dash board there is a wiring harness, It goes from the very right side of the car by the kickpanel, To up behind the stereo mounting hole and keeps going to up somewhere behind the passanger side of the dash.

There are wires that arent hooked up to anything underneath the dash and also where the cd player would go.
right now the car is all apart for alot of engine mods. So i did not turn the key or anything.

My question's are:

1. Can I use any 1g wiring harness from the junk yard on my car?If not, What years? Also, Is it hard to do?

2. With the wires undone , If I tried to turn my key, Would my car blow up or catch on fire?

3. Is this really bad? honestly.

Thanks in advance.
Rob.

I was in a similar situation when I bought my eclipse. The main difference was that the stereo had been stolen out of it, and the fruitcakes cut the wires behind the harness connectors (That was nice of them, wasn't it?)

So in my experience, in answer to #2, as long as you keep the wires pretty well seperated and not cossing each other, you should be ok to drive around with it disconnected. Toss tape over the ends if you want.

I'm assuming that any 1st gen harness would work (but there may be a difference from 1ga to 1gb, so with a 92, I'd see if I could score a 1gb.)

And in answer to number three, its always bad when someone mauls a perfectly good wiring setup to do a 1/2 assed job... <Grin>

Good luck... If you're lucky, unlike me, they didn't yank all over the wires when they did that install, which causes wierd power fits for me sometimes once in a blue moon anymore.

Well, I just got back from the junk yard. The dash on are cars are pretty hard to get out,I couldent get it all the way out . I got from the middle stereo section all the way to the passanger door with all connectors! I got the connectors for the radio, and part of the drivers side also. so I think I should have enough but hopefully my car will work good so I canput it off for a bit!

Update:

I uninstalled the whole alarm system except for a little box that connects to the ignition.(I did not want to take a chance with ignition wires.)

Anyways, The lights and everything work on the inside but the power windows do not work. While uninstalling the alarm wires out of the door I snipped 2 wires. The two wires in the door are blue and blue with i believe a black line, Thats from memory but I know they are blue. they are on the plug for the window switch on the drivers side door. I'm not sure where I hafto re attach them to though??? I've looked alittle bit for matching color wires but I did not see any. I would like to have the option to roll my window down though when I do get my car back being it is summer now. Any advice?
