About 12k miles ago i had a new 7-bolt (didnt have money for 6 bolt swap) put in by mitsu and new stock clutch as well (also had no extra money for good clutch). Ever since i got my car back from mitsu the clutch has been acting weird. Sometimes grinds, sometimes shifts very smooth. It will always feel normal until WOT, then i go to push the clutch in and it feels like a very minor vibration only in the clutch pedal. Sometimes after crusing for maybe 10 minutes, I'll push the clutch in and it will be very stiff, then right after that it will be fine. Usually after it messes up the engagment point will change also. I bled the system and there was air in the line but there isnt anymore. I drained and added new tranny fluid and xfer case fluid but the problem remains. Sorry up front for the length but I am just trying to be through. And thx for any help.

You've done all the obvious things to deal with the issue. Why don't you take it back to Mitsubishi and have them deal with it. You paid good money to have it fixed the first time, why would you want to do the fix it yourself? I would have made "them" bleed the system and so-on. Maybe they didn't tighten the flywheel, the clutch, or ? They should deal with it!

The reason i didnt take the car back to the dealer where the work was done is that they went out of business. Serves them right. I also adjusted the clutch a little more... feels right now. No more grinding or feeling different at WOT, the only thing that remains is the vibration feeling every now and then... Ill go to push in the clutch and it will feel very light and have that small vibration. To get it to go away i just leave it in neutral and pump the clutch several times until it goes away. Would that "pedal pump" still be the thing to do to correct this?

ps sorry it took a couple days to respond, the site wouldnt load or my internet was just messed up... thx tho

If you dont have the inconsistent pedal feel/engagement you were describing earlier, then that is not your problem. The vibration is only felt sometimes? Elaborate more on this if you could.

Say im just driving along normally, no heavy acceleration or WOT, I'll come up to a stop light, push the clutch in and it will feel very weak like its not anywhere near how stiff it usually is. And at the same time it feels like a very small vibration. To correct it i just push/release the clutch several times until it feels normal (usually about 3-4 times) then the clutch feels fine until it happens again. On average i'd say it happens about once or twice a day. Other than that i really cant describe anything else about it, if nothing else i guess i'll just trying the pedal pump and see if thats it...

Clogged hydraulic line.
Clutch diaphram spring bent.
Bad pressure plate.
Worn or broken torsion spring.
Release bearing worn.
Clutch disc spline worn.

To name a few...

Go to the bottom under "pedal pump" If you are getting inconsistent pedal pressure and the release point is moving on you, then this could definitely be the culprit.
So what do you do first? Adjust the rod, then the Cruise cutout switch, or vise versa? I am having the same problem and I am loosing faith in fixing it. Which do you turn which way?
Jon

i adjusted the cruise control switch (turn left to unscrew) so its out just enough to to fully engage the switch. Then i adjusted the rod for freeplay (turn in tward master cylinder). Has been workin pretty good for me.
