Plastidipped my car.

this stuff holds up awesome i did about 1.5 coats on all my stuff and i have hit it with the brush and high pressure from a car wash and no problems yet and its really thin on the edge of the rims but is holding up great. i will be adding about 4-5 more cans over everything to make it more permanent.

onllyyy problem is you cant "wipe" it off like, lets say, your dashboard is coated if you wipe it with any cloth it likes to tear the cloth up and/or snag it make it stick etc. As it is a rubber texture.

Only reason i havent done my interior black instead of tan in my explorer is im worried about trying to get dust and what not off it.

im thinking possibly the armorall sponge for interiors would work well in normal "dustoff" and what not. other wise ill just spray the floor out when im done fiberglassing it.

Lol I sprayed the exhaust flat black with high temp paint so its not as noticeable by the po9

Well that's certainly unique, most people like the look of their chrome/stainless steel exhaust... but then again spraying your whole car with plastidip is unique ;)

His exhaust isnt even in any of the first pics.

I hadn't looked at his prior shots, my bad

Has Anyone done the red? possibly on their 1g... and what kind of clear did you guys use on top of the plastidip, my 1gs hood was plastidip and its holding up amazing i want the whole car now but im thinking the red with the black hood

anyone done white yet? I have a white with black top im thinking of doing the white like this since the paint is dead

i guess i will be the first to do red and well a black top but i have it all ordered and ready to go, one question tho, the clear that plasidip how does it turn out or is it a gloss clear?

when i was reading that the plastidip just peeled off i started to look at my hood since the previuos only do the hood, i was thinking hey im going to take it off and sand the paint down to a smoother surface, i got a 1/8th of it done and said DANG! this will take forever to get off, but it holds up so amazing

You don't need to sand the plastidip down to remove it..you can use a razor blade to cut an incision into it and peel it off or use a chemical to break it down

i was removing the plastidip to sand the paint underneath because you can see where the paint was chipping so id sand that down and then re plastidip the hood

ah didn't see the part about paint chipping. My rear bumper had really bad paint chipping on the passenger side corner and since i sprayed 10 coats of dip on the car, it filled it in for the most part but it is barely noticable. You would have to be witin a foot or two to notice it, and even then its not even that bad

Looks good very stealth

By the looks of it, it seems to hold up to any weather conditions etc. That's pretty awesome right there, I'm definitely doing mine this summer.

My car was jade green spray bombed, all I did was wipe the car with denatured alchol then sprayed, its not really expensive to plastidipp it, 100 bucks atleast and you'll have it coated good, summer time I'm gonna use rustoleum clear , even if u scratch it u can just spray it a couple times and the plastidipp will sink in and cover it right back up

Tsi from hell don't ! Yur burgundy is so nice. That burgundy and the champagne r the best 1g colors !

Anyone do the engine bay and if so how is it holding up to the heat of the engine? Im looking to do something with the engine bay before I put the engine back in.

I have done both a strut bar and 1g bov that have held up great so far. Not sure how close to the heat you want to put it though

im thinking the strut towers and bay walls. the sub frame and motor mounts I would do with paint. The website says its good up to 200 degrees so it should be fine. I think im going to have to guinea pig it this week. How should I prep the car i figure like paint with sanding to like 400 grit before painting.

honestly as far as prep work goes for plastidip, just make sure the surface is clean. When i painted my car i just washed it with soap and water, dried it off, blew out all the water in the small cracks with an air gun and sprayed away. Luckily i was able to get the car done in a couple hours, and yes i sprayed 10 coats on each panel. My shop is heated so i was able to spray coats about 10-15 minutes apart.

I just ordered a case of 6 11oz cans in white to do the engine bay with. Ill post up pics of the work as I do the painting. It will most likely be on monday or tuesday weather depending.

With it having a rough feel to it, how hard is it to wash/keep clean? I fear it will attract and retain a lot of dirt and dust.
