The other day I started noticing a slight metallic "rattle" coinciding with when the BOV would vent. After discussion in some other threads, I was pretty sure it is a throwout bearing going bad.

A day or so later, I start getting even more PK than I normally have, and it's worse under part throttle (no boost) in lower gears. So I put the car up on ramps this evening and crawl around underneath while it's idling, and there is a NASTY rattle/knock coming from somewhere around the flywheel/trans case.

1. Does this sound like a TOB, or something else between motor and tranny? (Or even something in the tranny, although I doubt it since the sound seems to be in the clutch/flywheel area).

2. Would this contribute to high knock counts? (I'm guessing the knock sensor would easily pick this up).
