Ok can anyone give me some type of specifics like -

1g pistons will support ____ hp on 1g rods
2g pistons will support ____ hp on 1g rods
Forged pistons will support ____ on 1g rods

I think approximations are like 300 for 1g, 400-450 on 2g and above on forged? I'm getting a thousand different answers for what supports what. I want to put out around 450 when all is said and done, so everyone is saying just go with forged but the stock 1g rods will support that hp. What I'm trying to avoid is pulling the bottom end out b/c it's AWD and alot more money unless anyone knows if you can pull the bottom end out the top? I've never heard of it being done. What's the most hp you've seen run on 1g rods 2g pistons vs forged w/ 1g rods?

i only know wheel hp #'s. if you want to know the hp at the flywheel, youll have to do the calculating.

rods:

stock 6 bolt rods have taken 530Whp. this was in a colt i believe. noone i know of has gone farther, however im sure its possible. an impressive amount of people have (and still are) running 500Whp on the 1g rods reliably.

the most ive heard for stock 2g rods is 453Whp from Nimble's car. he ran that amount of power forever and then some, zero problems. i believe he recently ended up breaking a rod due to a tuning error, but im not too sure on that.

pistons:

1g and 2g piston power limitations have yet to be discovered. so far they have been producing very nice #'s and the known limits continue to be pushed. the ~500Whp+ examples i provided above were all with stock pistons.

the 2g piston and 1g (6bolt) rod combo has done very well. personally this is as far as i would ever go as far as a "custom" setup goes in a 4g63. the combo has propelled Al Blaha's car to a 10.5 and he has ran on this setup for a long time. the car has been local for quite some time, and some lucky owner now has one of the fastests daily drivers in michigan to this very day.

with that said, you would be more than fine making 450 hp at the fly on a stock 7 bolt. i notice you have a stock 6 bolt though, so youll be more than fine. building a motor for your goal would be overkill and a stupid waste of money.

[flamesuit on] building a 4g63 completely defeats the entire purpose of owing one.[/flamesuit off]

used pistons not fitting your cylinders? I know pistons will "seat" over time so is there any chance that if i get 2g used pistons with rings etc they wont seat properly in the cylinders?

nothing wrong with used pistons. the 2g pistons im putting in my motor are used. i simply just had them checked out to see if they were in spec. you must get new rings no matter what. you must also hone the cylinders so the rings seat properly. the pistons don't seat; the piston rings do.

one more thing: if you want to run 2g pistons on your 6bolt rods, you have to get the rods machined. this usually runs about 100 dollars.

excellent post ... nicely put :thumb:
