Piston rings

Piston rings are shot..
Can someone throw me a ball park idea of how much this is going to run me? I've heard I need a enw head gasket and blahblahblah... true, false?

Any info would be appreciated, thanks.

FYI- it's a 90 1.8 Laser

depends .. are you doing all the work yourself or taking it somewhere? Rings are $100ish ... but you should rehone the block and if you have to take it all apart you might as well replace bearings and machine the crank if needed. Who will be doing the work?

a buddy of mine and I.. right now I am college prep for toyota/mitsubishi auto classes.. so I'm learning as we work on my car, he's my personal mechanic

$100 for rings ... $100 to clean up the block and rehone it ( assuming thats all you need ) ... another $100 for gaskets and seals. Prolly about 300 total and 2 days of work plus downtime for rehone / clean

Not trying to hijack but I was about to start a similar thread and figured i'ld just stick it in here. I've got a turbo motor and I have had trouble finding any rings anywhere for stock pistons aside from the dealer and i'ld like to avoid their prices. If anyone can point me to a website that has rings, I would be most appreciative.
