piston and valve become one

i bought my laser a year ago now and i finally got around to posting a pic of the #1 piston i pulled out of my engine. i dont know exactly what caused this because it was like this when i bought the car. the valve head is broken off and stuck in the top of the piston sideways. its in there pretty good too. i gave it a tug with some pliers and its not going anywhere.

I've had a few like that. Actually, our maroon Laser came to us like that. It had valves laying in every cylinder. The car was probably timed wrong or it tossed the belt and ate the valve. Also, the combustion chamber in that area of the head is probably chewed up pretty good, as well.
