I was wanting to know what kind of power and strength I can expect from ross 8.3-1 compression ratio pistons and eagle rods? Can they take some abuse or should i look into something different. My upgrade plan is bc cams stage 2 those pistons and rods stock 14b turbo ported arp head studs and cometic head gasket. I'm looking for a strong bottom end that can take some abuse and lots of boost.

If your not planning on making over 450whp a built bottom end really isnt worth the money, it could be spent somewhere else. What are you goals for the car?

Yea i know but do you think those pistons and rods will handle that kind of power or should I look for something different.

In my opinon I would not go all out if this is the 1st fast car you have ever had. When I ride in a stock GSX Im like wow this thing is so fast. I have never ridden in a modded dsm that was faster than a stock dsm. That describes the problems that modding will cause if you are a newbie and don't know yet how to fix your cars problems. 1st thing you want to do is make a boost leak tester and adjust the igntion timing and do a complete tune up. These cars will fly stock, why not enjoy it for awhile. There is nothing around me that can hang with a stock dsm as far as I know.

When I get in a stock dsm I'm like damn this car feels like a stock civic. LOL. You must have some slow cars around you then. Anyways I think that you will be fine with that setup. Dont let these guys discourage you, go big or go home.

To the OP I like the wiseco 8.8:1 pistons myself but ross work just fine. Both pistons on eagle rods should be good for 650whp or more. What turbo are you thinking of.

I would like to see 5-600 awhp but still be a good daily driver but I know good luck. Id like to see 10's or 11's
You're not getting there with a 14B. Unless you're planning on going with a much bigger turbo in the near future, you've got a long way to go before you need to worry about bottom end reliability.

Is your engine shot or why are you building? If everything is OK with the engine, I would get some supporting mods and leave the engine alone. If you get past 400-450+ at the wheels, then start thinking of getting a built engine.

If you are not very experienced with dsm's, get some experience by tinkering and tuning before building it up. I always think it's best to make the most of what you have first anyways. Get an EPROM ECU (if yours isn't) and chip burner or emulator and learn how to tune. Get the supporting mods to max out that 14b, and then upgrade the turbo.
