Description: Pioneer 8400MP MP3/CD Player

Issue: The head unit is fully operational but after being on for a certain period of time, especially on warm days, I cannot open the player when the face plate is closed. I'm figuring part of the mechanism that slides the face plate down is expanding because of heat causing it not to open, contracts once it cools down and then I'm able to open it. If I drive around with the face down it doesnt cause me any problems opening and closing it, its only when I drive with it closed. I hate driving with it open because I tend to hit it with the shifter. Any help appreciated. I have taken it in once and the place that looked at it said the face was bent but he couldnt show me where and claimed they had fixed it, so I don't trust their answer or their shop as the problem still exists.

Unfortunately it came with the car when I purchased it and no receipt was provided. I contacted the previous owner and he didnt have the reciept. Ive already spend $170 CDN on the deck to have it serviced last year because it totally died on me. If the head unit didnt retail for $1000CDN a couple of years ago I would just pitch the stupid thing.

Buy a new one, put old one in new box, return the "defective" product to the store. Just a suggestion. i dont know.

i have the DEH8400 also. ive had it since it came out back in 02 i think, ive had 0 prolems and i will use it till it dies.

id try to find a electronics shop that does repairs on shit like cd players and such. or maybe call up Pioneer and see if you can send it in and have repairs done straight through them.

or shit, take it apart and try to fix it yourself. if anything youll prolly get a new one anyways, but if you fix it you get to have the pride in knowing everyone else failed where you suceeded.

my warranty is over, it was a 2 year. if it was still active, id say send it my way, ill take it to Best Buy, send it in and get a new one and send it to you.

Funny you said that, I took it apart yesterday. My theory is correct. When I apply heat to the motor unit that moves the face down(with a blow dryer to speed things up) it will not open. If I gently maually move the gears when I press open during the sticking period it will open. I am headed over to a local shop to order a new motor :thumb: Sucks driving around with no music again though.
