My engine had a knock in it and when i revved her up, the sound would intensify. I took the bearings out and wondered what you all thought about these bearings. Do they look like they would be causing the knock?

oohhh im sorry man i thought you were just asking if you needed some new ones bearings could casue the knock but idk if these were at the point of being that bad yet

I'm sorry I should've made myself clearer.:thumb: Thats what I was thinking, but I was just wanting another opinion. I know the balance shaft hasn't been removed, that may be what it is.

Thanks for your time!

Some helpful advise.if you think it was a rod knock just take your crank and the rods with the worse looking bearings and take them to a local machine shop.just have thwm look them over and if need be have them reground and polished.nothing major just enough to take any edges off that could catch a bearing.in my 93 eclipse 2.0 I had a rod knock about a year ago so I took ot apart threw in new bearings and PERFECT!the knock was gone.until I put 25 miles again and guess who's back.yupp it spun again.point here is I felt like a complete asshole all to save 50 dollars.some may argue that this isn't necesarry and a visual inspection is enough but learn from my mistake and buy yourself a little piece of mind........and a lot more work.

Id check out your balance shaft bearings too before you put it all back together. When my balance shaft bearings went It made a nasty buzzing so that may be your problem. Id suggest a elimination kit too just so you dont have to worry about problems down the road.

Yeah those bearings dont look too bad. How many miles were on them? Look into balance shaft as mentioned for knocking culprit

Check the thrust play of your crank and your balance shaft bearings

Those rod bearings are worn, but not to the point of knocking.

Thank you all for your responses.

My car has 156k miles. I'm not aware of anything being replaced.

I haven't gotten far enough to take the head off to examine the pistons. hopefully this weekend I will get to that.

I'm planning on eliminating the balance shaft. I'm going to try to rebuild this motor unless when I take it apart everything is just mangled.

I am also planning on taking the bearings and the crank to my local machine shop.

And I will check the thrust play in my crank. do you think that might be crank walk going on?

You would get knock from having too much clearance.
You need to get some plastigauge and put the block back together like you would if it was for an install (proper torque specs) then call a dealer and see if you can get the tolerances for your application (pretty sure it will be between .0025 & .003 for rod bearings.
