toronto,
hey guys, over the last few days my car has begun to phantom knock more and more and more... now its just ridiculous. I cant drive to work anymore, I phantom knock for at least 20 mins after starting the car up in the morning, and my drive to work is only 10 mins. so its truly hell.
any throttle, any speed, warm or cold, it will jump to 43 counts everytime, and pull timing, and shutter like a bastard.
any thoughts on this from people have experienced this phantom knock issue?
thanks

I've never had any lifter tick issues before aside from when the car is due for an oil change, about 4000 after the change is the usual time it starts to tick...
this oil has about 1600kms on it only. its regular 5w30... should I try something else? any ideas? A month ago I won a case of 5w30 synthetic, should I try it out? does synthetic oil worsen or relieve tick usually.
thanks guys

I believe the snesor to be fine simply because after a period of driving say 15-20 minutes, all phantom knock will go away... and it will read small amounts (1-3 counts) of real knock occassionally above 6000rpms.

last time i checked it with my light... it was 5 dead on perfect...
could it have changed? i will check it again tomorrow though for the hell of it.

Time for the revised lifters and a ECU with a Keydiver chip in it with the phantom knock code. I get some pk still around 35% tps and am probably going to get it bumped up to that mark to kill it.

But if you still have the stock knock sensor, ditch it, its worth it just to make sure. Forget about changing oils, the lifters are already gummed up and will not stop ticking unless you pull them and clean em up. Then, it will probably come back in 5k anyways, so do not waste your time.

dont use the synthetic oil. try retarding your timing just a hair. go change your oil and throw in a can of engine restore. I dont care what anyone says about it, it is awesome. I do it every oil change and lifter tick nor phantom knock has come back. Its not a thick gummy gear oil type additive either, it looks like purple koolaid. Trust me, ive battled phantom knock all year and this was my solution.

of course, some know-it-all will reply with some smart ass reply that he soaked up from another thread to prove how he is all-knowing and is the type of person to always object to every idea or opinion, man I hate that. There is one in every thread i've ever read. Sorry, had to vent.

yeah so, go change your oil and let us know.
