Performance Woes

I bought my 2g n/t a/t gs a few weeks ago. I come to find out now i'm only getting about 15 mpg. I've searched many threads about gas mileage but didnt find anything that really helped. My job requires alot of driving, so good mileage is vital, i looked up the eclipse before i purchased and it said it got 22/29 or so, so 15 is a big surprise.

My eclipse is pretty much stock except for headers and about 6 1/4 inch holes drilled in the muffer (i dont know if it makes a better sound or what, but they put them there). What could make me get such terrible mileage? Thanks guys.

Did you do a full tune up on the car when you purchased it?

I was thinking i should do that, I need to call the dealer and ask if he had anything done. If it were warmer out I would do it myself since I dont even want to think what they might charge me if I take it in. Do you think it a tune up would really bump it up 7mpg? (or close)

It depends how bad the stuff on the car is now.

New plugs, wires, pcv valve, high octane gas with some injector cleaner. If that doesn't work then it could be a bad O2 sensor, low tires, brakes rubbing, dirty air filter, dirty fuel filter maybe. I doubt this but it could even be bigger wheels and tires on it and its not set correctly with your speedo so the wheels are rotating less thus causing the lower mpg. (Most likely not on your car but happens on trucks) Also keep your foot out of it. That makes a world of difference. I am just throwing some stuff out there for you.
