Performance parts for n/a dsm's

Okay, the punishment header is performing very well despite the bit of fabricating that I had to do to get it to fit. I got off Rosecrans to the 110 south today and it was pulling HARD from 80 to 90 and kept going. I stopped after that. I am very impressed with the performance. It keeps the low end torque while giving some decent top end. I have to say that I'm happy. I just have to track down an exhaust leak right now. I think it's from the downpipe to the exhaust manifold. It doesn't look like it's lining up properly. I can adjust it though. As long as they could get the fitment right on the header to the head, I'd be very happy to recommend this product. I think they need to get their fabrication process down a little bit more before I'd say to go out and get one. I can't wait to see how much power I'll make when I go with the Buschur high flow cat and 2.5 inch custom exhaust. Right now I have a stock cat as well as the catback.

whats the exact issue with the fitment. id liek to knwo as f its not a biggy ill still get it

Okay, well they fixed the issue with the piping getting in the way of the powersteering bracket. However, the plate that bolts to the head doesn't fit right where it meets the power steering bracket. The very top corner on the driver's side needs to be shaved off about 1/2 inch for it to fit. Also, the bolt hole on the far passenger's side didn't line up. I had to enlarge the hold to get it to fit. It took about 2 hours to fix with a power drill and hacksaw. I'm sure it would be much less if you had better tools. Otherwise, it's been performing very well. I just need to get out there and get the downpipe fastened down a bit better. Oh, and you might need to move the dipstick around some. It also gets in the way, but I can't see Punishment getting around that one and still being able to use the turbo downpipe.

:thumb: that sux. man if they get over this fitment crap. i wanted ti because fo the easy downpip situation and all. kinda sux but you can still use a gst exhaust with a n/t extrememotrsports header

Theres no difference in the MAFs on the N/A 2.0's and the 1.8's. They're the same and yes that huge thing does block a large amount of airflow. however, with a nice coping saw, you can free up a little more air as long as you know where to cut :thumb:

just run the mas translator setup. i wouldnt even waste time with all that. you can get stainless bends and make your own 3 inch intake for $100. then the mas and filter is another $50. you can have a tunable mas setup with a good deal bigger intake piping setup for just under $400

thats what im runnign for tuning reasons anyway

Yeah, I don't know what I did before I ran with the GM MAF and the translator. That thing really makes a difference. Plus, it lets you tune out a crappy idle.

Thunderskull...what is your overall impression on the 4-1 header now that you have had it on for a few days. See any improvement on torque, and if so where on the powerband did it help the most? I am very interested in getting one myself, but with the problems that you have experienced, I have been holding off until everything is set-up a little better. Plus I wasn't sure if going from a 4-2-1 to the 4-1 would help my performance or not. I was told by a Mitsu professional overseas that this would be one of the best improvements I could make to my current mod list.

Any way you could post a picture of how it looks installed?

I am making some major changes to the na header program, I wasn't real happy with the first batch that came out. I've got a notice on the site site explaining this a bit, and if anybody has any questions you can email me directly.

I was happy with the performance from your old header, it was just the fitment that I had a problem with. I got it to fit, but I had to cut and drill the backplate.

I'm sure I could find enough people to get a 1.8L header going as well. Will you be doing a 1.8 header anytime in the future if you get enough interested buyers?

strange how this thread just died all of a sudden, we need to start it back up again b/c im very interested the only thing im having problems with is pictures and the fact that the punishers na website doesnt work at all it brings it up but theres nothing there just black bg.

Yeah, I think they decided to get out of the n/a dsm business. There really wasn't much unique on the site except for the header which kinda fizzled. That was a shame too. If they could've gotten the fitment right it would've been fantastic. It performed like a real champ.

they should have done a few htings different, liek get premade collectors.

they can get them from burns stainless for kinda cheap, but itll be a nice smooth merge, no bs welds lie they had.

also if they got there flanges premade, and slid the runners all the way through the flange, then decked it to make the whole surface flat that woulda been sweet also. it woulda sealed up to the head sweet like and everythign woulda been smooth all the way through.

other then that its just gettin the pipes to the collector and all. i dotn even think i can get my header to work the fitment is pretty f'ed. im gonna see what i can do with it with a few porting bits and stuff, maybe i can save her

i e-mailed TC@punishmentracing and they quoted me 450 bucks for the headers and downpipe, i would have ordered it but he said that it would take like 4 - 6 weeks,i couldnt wait that long so i just bought the ( Better made ) pacesetter headers and exhaust for less then 387 bucks, of course i will have to spot weld here and there and probably makesome modifacations but it just seems like pacesetter is the only header out there that doesnt cost an arm and a leg to purchase, i bought my pacesetter header and exhaust from summitracing, if punishment would have been able to get the part out sooner i would have bought it, race season is comming so i need to prepare for it asap no 4 week later. :dsm:

ya you guys know there is an obx header out to for 1gens now i made a post on it a few months back if you search ob header it should come up no one has any problems with it and it looks nice id get it if i wasnt buying a tsi awd
:laser:

Another "Keep the 1.8 in mind" I know my local hardware and plumbing supply shops will hate you but I'd love you. Plenty of 1.8's around here and the biggest question everyone has is "Where to buy a hot cam" and of course the CAI. Our mods work but it would be nice to be able to pop the hood and not see something that resembled the underside of the kitchen sink cabinet! Not much you can do with a 1.8 simply because there aren't many aftermarket parts available.
