Hey everyone i am new to this forum and i had recently got a 99 eclipse gsx completely stock. I want to make it one bad a** machine. I've been looking around online for some performance parts and i have a list of stuff that i would not mind buying. I just wanted to get everyones opinions with the parts that i listed if they are good parts or not and if they would all function together on my car. All help and suggestions are appreciated. And please list other parts that i would also need for a functioning car. Here's the list. 18G Turbo $1000.00 Light weight aluminum turbo pulley $90.00 Spark plug wires $26.00 Injen intake system $300.00 Intercooler kit $800.00 Blow off valve $275.00 Greddy boost controller $400.00 Some kind of exhaust around $700.00 High flow fuel rail $190.00 Manley titanium retainers with springs kit $300.00 750cc fuel injectors $300.00 High flow fuel pump $125.00 Wiseco pistons 7 bolt high compression/with bore of .020 $550.00 Eagle rods $400.00 Evo 8 sodium filled exhaust valves $225.00 Replacement OEM swirl polished intake valves $100.0 Brian crower 280 cams $385 Two AEM adjustable cam gears $360.00 Polyurethane motor mounts $100.00 Balance shaft removal kit $60.00 Light weight pulley kit $200.00 High performance radiator $400.00 DSM LINK $600.00 Greddy oil cooler kit $650.00 Fidanza light weight flywheel $225.00 Fidanza 4.3 ceramic clutch kit $425.00 Megan racing short shift kit $60.00 Aluminum drive shaft $700.00 Megan racing off road down pipe $150.00 DN performance exhaust manifold$? Well theres the short list i have right now. I know i will need more stuff but i dont really know what, so if anyone could point me in the right direction that would be great. and again please let me know if this a good start. All suggestion welcomed. Thanks :idontknow:

Your wall of text pwned me. But I'll try to help you out.

"18G Turbo $1000.00 Light weight aluminum turbo pulley $90.00 "

The 18g is a great turbo, but you can get any 50 trim turbo that's going to be more efficient on pump gas and make just as much power for little more than half that price. Most 50 trims run under the 800 dollar range, and vendors are always making deals on them since there are so many different ones out there. I have no idea what a lightweight aluminum turbo pulley is, or why it costs $90. Maybe you're thinking supercharger pulley?

"Spark plug wires $26.00 Injen intake system $300.00"

I have no idea what spark plug wires you're getting for 26 bucks, but they're probably not very good. Get some OEM NGK wires from the dealership, or if you want flashy, get some Magnecores. The Injen system is nice, if you want shiny and a brand name, but you're talking 300 bucks for a pipe. Check out Forced Performance's cast aluminum 4" intake pipe. If you go with a turbo with a 3" inlet (some of the 50 trim's I mentioned have them) you'll just need a reducer coupler for it.

"Blow off valve $275.00 Greddy boost controller $400.00"

What BOV are you planning on? If you get one that vents to atmosphere, you're going to need the proper supporting modifications to do so. If you go with a recirculating one, just get a 1g BOV; it'll be ~$80 or less. The majority of DSM'ers get by fine with a manual boost controller, which can be had for less than $70; in some cases, you can get them for $25. If you don't care about not being able to change boost from inside the cabin on the fly (to give you an idea, I haven't adjusted my boost level in 6 months) then an MBC will work just fine for you and save you $350 at the same time.

"Some kind of exhaust around $700.00 High flow fuel rail $190.00"

I highly recommend the Megan Racing exhaust. You can get their downpipe and cat-back for less than $600. Polished SS, Tig welded, 3" all the way back, a beautiful sound, and great quality. There's a thread on here that covers it pretty well. The stock DSM fuel rail works just fine. No need to upgrade until you want to make more than 600hp.

"Light weight pulley kit $200.00 High performance radiator $400.00"

Skip the lightweight pulleys. You'll be fine without them. You can get a Mishimoto radiator for $200 or so. There are a few threads about that one around here too.

"Greddy oil cooler kit $650.00"

Buy some -8AN line, fittings, and a B&M cooler and make your own for less than half the price of the Greddy.

Do you really think you need an aluminum driveshaft at this point? Might want to take care of the other things first. Don't forget, you haven't touched on the transmission yet, and that's usually one of the weak points of these cars once you get into the higher horsepower numbers. Check into a Shep, Jack's, or TRE trans rebuild or replacement tranny at some point in your build.

Don't forget to do your scheduled preventative maintenance on all things. Do research here before buying stuff. Buy from reputable dealers/vendors whenever possible. Buy a lot from them and they might give you some deals on other stuff. Don't street race. Get a goal in mind before you buy stuff. What horsepower number do you want? What combination of parts will it take to get you there with the least amount of money? What are you going to do with your car when it's at that horsepower level? (Hint: Don't street race.)

Questions, comments, concerns? We're here to help.

Injen Intake System-300

If I were you, an intake pipe is just that and its been discussed here on the board about ebay intakes. They are "injen" styles and run less. I would suggest to buy a K&n or other high performance filter as the ones the come with those are not suggested

I would suggest doing maintence first.

Welcome to the boards!

One other thing, search the classifieds for used parts, you dont always have to buy everything new, sure its nice but you want to save money right:confused: Just b/c something is used doesn't mean it will be junk you just need to be careful of what you buy

Please listen to Mr. Boxx. Your post makes me cringe and it's not even coming from my wallet.

Mr.Boxx covered most of it. Forget the 18g and go with a 50 trim
But, I don't see and fuel upgrades beside a fuel rail which you don't need...but Don't forget a Fuel pump.

Edit: I missed the 750's I'd go bigger Atleast 1150 or some of the blue max injectors no reson to have to buy bigger ones down the road,Say if you decide to run E85

Jesus you must have alot of money or won the lotto.. You kind of seem like the guy that has other people do the mods while you just pay for it.. With the amount of money you just threw out for that "mods list" i can build a 10sec DD... But i do almost all the work myself and i have read alot.. Alot of the guys on here know alot of tricks to go very fast without spending anywhere near the amount of money you threw out there.. Good luck on your build but i think you should save that fat wallet you got and sit on it for a while and start reading...

Exactly how much money do you have to spend? And before you do any type of mods, make sure you do maintenance first. I would hate to see you spend 4k in mods and have to throw it all away because of something stupid.

I know it sound like I got a lake of oil behind my house, but i really don't. I have always loved eclipse's since they made the second gen's and now I finally got one. What I would like to do with this car is to be able to take it to the track and tear it up and also be able to take it to the strip, more so the track tho, and still be street legal so i can go out sometime and show my sh** off a lil bit.
It's not going to be an over night project, i;m thinking around 3 years till everything is said and done. I do wanna try to keep it all under 20 grand tho. I definitely want to go out and race it. I'm gonna gut out the whole interior and build a roll cage all to NHRA spec's, relocate fuel cell and battery, get a good suspension and whatever else needs to be done. As of right now I'm not sure what all needs to be done to be able to race. I'm just trying to get in to it all now. And that's why I'm on here trying to learn what i all need to do before i start buying stuff. And as for how much power i wanna make I'm not sure. I'm guessing around 450-500 hp. Does anybody think that 20 grand will be enough to achieve my goals.

You've come to the right place, but like you said, take your time and learn what you need before you start saying what you want. As you've seen, I shot down or altered about half your wish list, either because the parts are unnecessary, redundant, overly expensive, outdated, or just because they're what you would expect to find on 800hp track monsters, not daily drivers.

A 50 trim turbo will get you to 400-450hp or more without any big problems, especially if you have the proper fuel modifications and tuning software/dyno time. Speaking of tuning, that's a pretty important thing if you want to get the most reliable power out of the minimum amount of parts. That's why I don't think you need a $700 aluminum driveshaft, which might net you a total of 25 wheel horsepower, when you could spend $300 on 2 hours of dyno time at a reputable shop and net yourself 3 times that power with a properly tuned setup. DSM'ers are known for making sick power numbers using, not the most expensive parts, but the SMARTEST parts. Check the tuning guides. You won't find aftermarket fuel rails, aluminum drive shafts, lightweight pulleys, etc. For show cars, sure. But the majority of DSM'ers aren't looking to show their car off to anyone who's not sitting alongside a cordoned-off piece of SCCA or NHRA certified asphalt.

Will 20 grand get you to your goals? Sure. But you could achieve your goals for a whole lot less, too. All depends on how you want to do it.

i would recommend not getting the megan catback or any products from them unless u wanna hear alot of bs of why they keep saying they do then dont have there exhaust in stock. ive been waiting since sept 8th for my exhaust from them. i would recommend an apexi exhaust ive heard alot if good things. and im not sure if you mentioned any brake upgrdes. but if ue gonna go fast ## goonna want to be able to stop.

Check this website out (Welcome To Extreme PSI). They are in Pa also so orders "should" be over night if they have it in stock. Plus you can find most of what you mentioned in your wish list for cheaper. They are a dsmtuners supporting vendor as well.

Please use proper spelling, grammar and punctuation on this site. Thank you.

The best way to order parts is to physically call the vendor in question and verify that the part is in stock and get an estimated shipping date from them at the time you order. The Megan Racing exhaust is definitely worth the price.

To expand on that, getting parts from a DSM-specific vendor, as opposed to an ebay store, is a great way to support the community, to ensure that DSM vendors continue making parts for our cars, and a good way to make good relationships with actual salespeople and shops, as opposed to Joe Bob who sells fifty million different Euro taillights on ebay. Most guys (and some girls) that work at a DSM vendor are current or former DSM owners themselves, so they're the guys you want to talk to when you start formulating your goals. If they're a reputable salesperson, they'll be able to help you pick the best combination of parts and maybe work out some good deals for you. While buying from a DSM vendor may sometimes be more expensive than Ebay or generic knock-off parts, the extra effort and support that you get from them make it worth the price.
