Hi,
I'm new to the forum and new to dsm's in general. I just bought my first one a few weeks ago. It's a 1995 Eclipse GSX with a 6bolt swap from a 90 GSX. Other than the swap and the 3g revised lifters I installed yesterday, the car is completely stock.

I changed out the spark plugs about a week ago with E3's. Are these good plugs to run in this car?
From the time I bought the car I have been experiencing some performance issues. The clutch seems to be slipping. When boost kicks in, the RPMs crank up without any power increase to the tires, then the RPMs go back down and tires get power again. It doesn't do this all the time but more often than not, mostly when i'm gunning it. I've already bought a new clutch (6 puck ceramic stage 2 racing clutch from eClutchmaster on Ebay) to put in the car. Hopefully this will solve this issue. Any advise/constructive criticism would be great.

The other issue i'm having is more troubling to me. My CEL is on and the codes coming from it are, P0300 - Random cylider misfire, and P0443 - EVAP system purge control valve circuit.
My symptoms are as I'm coasting in gear (any gear) between 2700-3500 RPMs the engine kinda hiccups and then starts running rough. It starts shaking and when I add throttle it feels like the engine is misfiring and struggling to keep up with the load and produces a low tone roar from the exhaust. I can turn the car off and back on again and the car runs smooth again for a little bit then goes back to rough when I start cruising again.
The guy I bought the car from told me that the misfire code comes from the 6bolt swap and is a misread from the ECU and that I can install the ECMLink chip and set it to ignore the random misfire code and theengine would run fine afterward. Is this good advise? Will this solve my issue?
I have also read on another forum that the ticking from 1g lifters (which I did experience) get picked up by the knock sensor and interpreted as knock and retards the engine timing in order to compensate for this. For this reason, I installed the 3g revised lifters. After installation I let the car idle for 15-20mins and the lifters ticked loud. I turned the car off then started it back up and drove it to the gas station to fill up. The lifters still ticked loud. After adding 8 gallons in from empty I drove down the road to AutoZone and the lifters seemed to quiet down a bit, but the engine hiccuped into rough mode again. At AutoZone I had them read the CEL code and that's when I was told what they were. I then drove the road to Walmart and after leaving there I headed home. On the way to Walmart and home the engine didn't run rough, but felt like it wanted to by studdering thru the boost occasionally. After resting for an hour or so I needed to take the wife to the ER and on the way there the car ran smoothly, lifters were hardly noticeable as well. After leaving the ER the car ran smoothly again all the way home, however the CEL still remains on.
I do not know if this problem is solved (I'm not very confident that it is), as I have not driven the car at all today.

If anyone has any advise or possible diagnosis/solutions to the problem I am all ears (or more appropriately eyes). I am open to constructive criticism as well. Thanks for having me on the forum. I hope to learn a lot from the experienced members of the forum.

Do mean I need to post my questions there? Or do you mean to tell me where to get that chip mod at?

Yea the P300 code is common with the 6bolt swap, ive been down that road myself ha. Your probably going to want to get link, it makes fixing that problem as easy as it can be, just selecting a check box to ignore random misfires. Also may need to intervt the CAS which is simple with link as well. Basically if you can afford to get link right now I'd get it, its a great tool to have and learn how to use (which I am still doing myself, I am by far no expert with it as some at on here). Untill you get link you can disconnect the battery to clear the code but it will more then likely come back fairly quickly.

For a poor mans fix you can do to get you by until link is go to radio shack, buy a simple turn style potentiometer, wire it into the barometric pressure sensor wire at the ecu, add x-amount of resistance to this circut (there's more info in this web site if you search for it) this will stop the ecu from having one of the I think five things it looks forto do random mis-fire. It'll still do it, but not nearly as often. Instead of ten random misfires on way to work you'll probably only see one. When this happens it feels like 2spark plug wires came disconnected huh? I know this problem all to well. Battled it a lot befor link was available

Thanks for all the words of wisdom. I didn't drive it at all yesterday and cranked it up this morning to take my wife to the ER again. I noticed the CEL still on so I turned the car off and disconnected the negative battery cable for about 20 seconds and reconnected it. Started the car back up and the CEL was off. I drive like a bat out of hell to drop the baby off at the sitter's house and then headed to the hospital. The car ran smooth the whole way here (I'm actually on the hospital wi-fi right now, ha). The car kinda gave me some minor studder boost in 3rd & 4thbetween 3500-4500 RPMs, but other than that it ran smooth, no CEL yet. I figure the studder is cause the car isn't properly tuned right. I certainly want to get ecmlink but unfortunately I can't afford it right now. Hopefully the CEL will stay off for a little while! ;)

Thanks dsmcurse, I'll try giving that a shot. :thumb:

Link should be your next mod, it does wonders, I benefitted greatly when I done a 1G 7 bolt swap into my 97 TSi.

Thanks, yea that is the next mod on my list for sure... Might be a bit of a wait for me though.

As for the other CEL code, P0443 (EVAP), does anyone know why this might be showing up or what may be the cause of it? Could this be linked to the RMF, or another issue all together?

I emailed ECMTuning.com and here is what their suggestion was on the subject...

[ As for the misfire, ECMLink does provide a way to "ignore" the random misfire code. This may or may not help with your situation, though. The P0443 (EVAP) code can be ignored in terms of your rough running issue. But the P0300 code is just a false detection of misfire based on the crappy 1G CAS signal. You can disable that with ECMLink but since the code is not cylinder specific, I'm not sure if it would be causing the rough idle you're having or not. ]
