Hey,
Well I just came back from seattle and I loved it up there. Booming construction, quiet areas, decent cost of living. Anyways I was looking for houses and just wanted some of yall's opinion. How is puyallup? Is it a good area? Also I was looking for a house around the 250k area. Also I'm trying to get into the electrician field, I already has a year of experience in Hawaii but, I read that you need a apprentice card to get it. Does anyone have any info on that? Any help would be appreciated.

Mahalo

Cool man, depends on the type of person you are.

I know a guy on here that does electriction work in the puayallup area, and I'll have to let him know about the post and get back to ya.

Depends on where you want your kids to go to school, and what you want to do for work etc.

But the Olympia (state capital) has some nice houses. A lot of new houses in fact.

Ft. lewis has alot of the military families.

They are developing everywhere....so just look for a place that sounds nice, feels right, and a place where you can raise a family etc.

I would reccommend Puyallup too. I went to school there and now I go to PLU in Parkland. Let me know? Like Rand said though too, it depends on where you want to be? I love Puyallup, because it's only like 30 minutes from most places, but about 15 to everywhere else that is close. So yeah, lots of schools to choose from and alot of other good things about Puyallup. I hope this helped some? Let us know?

I live up north and like it alot more then down south (sorry puyallup guys). Its more city like and has GREAT communities. The samammish/issaquah area is still fairly priced and is growing hugely so financialy you will be in great shape 5 years from now. away from the seattle area will deffinately be cheaper though.

Im not 100% sure but i heard a rumor/fact that Google is buying/bought land in yakima for one of there huge business centers. can you can investment opportunity?? but i personaly would never move to yakima. good apples though...

thanks for all the help, well we checked out Renton but all the houses we looked at where high priced (still much more affordable then hawaii). I'm really interested in electrician/construction work but just need to find out the steps on applying for a job when i live in hawaii and "plan" on moving to washington.

True...but I think you would be really happy in the puyallup area, and you will have plenty of work there, in that area, b/c there is still alot of people and houses being built around the area futher out in Graham. I am from Graham, but it's more of a suburb of Puyallup. If you look ar Puyallup more there are 2 big housing developments that I would reccommend to you. One is called Sunrise in Puyallup and the other one is like 5 minutes or so away from there, called Crystal Ridge...very nice places and you won't be dissapointed, but it depends if you are looking for some land, a little land or none at all? We almost built our house in Sunrise, but ended up moving out to Graham. So hope this helps some more, but definitely check it out and let me know if you need help or someone to look w/ you? I hope you find the perfect place and let us know when the time comes? Later and good luck...:thumb:

Hey thanks again everyone, well my next time i can take vacation is january so ill be coming up there to job hunt and look at the puyallup area. O how much is insurance up there? like just liability for your car? do you guys have smog check or any strict laws?

I live in federal way I am 18 years old and I pay 125 for liability on my car. I don't know about in puyallup as far as emmisions but I know that every check station has to accomidate you so I just go to the ones with out an AWD dyno if your car is AWD and pass with flying colors. They are not to strick up here from what I have found. Also my uncle is an electrition and owns his own company when you come up I will let him know and see if he is hiring so post when you come up.

I could ask him about the apprentice card next time I see him.

Good luck,
Brandon

Hey again thanks alot for all the info. Brandon could you ask your uncle if he would take an apprentice in maybe about 6 months? I'll even take the minimum of 40% of the journeymans pay. Also is that 125 a month?

I pay $90/mo for full coverage on my Galant. I think liability was around $60/mo. It really depends on your age and your driving record.

Peirce and King county have SMOG check's every two years.

Thurston county (Lacey, Olympia, tumwater) has none.

As for insurance you'd have to call and get a quote, there is too many variables. I know guys that driver the same car, same age, same neighborhood, and they pay substantially different insurance rates.

Well looks like its confirmed im moving up there as soon as i save some scripts. Gonna find someplace to rent and hopefully get into the apprentice program. But I'm not moving until i save up some decent cash to ship my car up, get a place, and buy some furniture.

O one more question, when we went up we stayed in the Renton area and noticed there were a hell of a lot of furniture stores around, is there a reason for that?

you just happend to be by south center mall, and a place where I lot of big furniture places keep their warehouses. So its just easier to have stores there too for show and tell ya know.

Where you gonna rent a place at when you get up here.

My personal suggestion, even though I understand where you are coming from, is to stay away from seattle unless you are going to live like in Bellevue or somewhere where you can get away, but it's just plain busy out there. Lots of noise and such, so if you are looking and where ever your work lands you, I suggest living like in Tacoma, Puyallup, Auburn, Kent, Olympia, Yelm, Graham, or somewhere you can have some quiet and not have real busy things always happening, unless you like that, especially coming from Hawaii, where it can be busy, but it's Island life, you know...?:D Anyways, just a suggestion. Like where Rand said, by Southcenter and such, its real busy, but I understand that where ever business leads you go, thats what you got to do, but if not then those places I would suggest. The traffic is bad enough in those places I mentioned, not to mention its like 10x worse in seattle, bellevue and the further North you go. I could be wrong, and don't get me wrong I love Seattle and Bellevue and all of those places, but just being there and having friends who live there, just my 2 cents...but you have to make the choice and depends on where your work leads you too man, hope you find a good apprentice program and good luck in your search and let us know where it ends up being, even if its in a couple of months down the road? It would be cool to hook up w/ other local dsmers and what not to show you some of the roads and just meet up...:thumb:
