pcv check

Hey guys I been searching for an hour now, but can't seem to find the right answer getting confused. My question is I replaced my old pcv. Now when I suck on the end air comes threw freely, but here is the part I don’t get when I blow on it is it supposed to block air completely or allow just a little to get threw? When I blow on the new one (FRAM Brand) it allows air threw I can still blow some threw just got to blow a little harder. Now am pushing 25psi on my 57trim so I imaging this thing is letting allot of air into my VC and coming out my VC vent like nothing. Should a PCV do this?

No. It should block completely. It's defective, get a replacement...for free.

No and you'll find out that this is very common with aftermarket PCVs. It used to be that the OEM versions were always good but that hasn't been my experence the past few years.

Agree with the aftermarket thing. It's a $2 item, and if the OEM one works 9 times out of 10, I'd go with it.

If you don't care about being emissions legal you may want to look into removing the PCV altogether and get a catch can. There are numerous threads on here, and vendors that sell kits. Or the DIY version is popular, using a pop bottle or PVC (ironic isn't it):http://dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=212235

Yeha am gonan head over to autozone after work and open them up and blow on them . called the dealer ship they have to order them not in stock.

Okay i went to a couple diffrent stores and tried diffrent brands all the pcv let alittle air threw when you blow on them. I tried about 12 diffrent pcv valves, are you sure they dont allow a little air though? Can some one take theirs off and blow on it just to see.

No air should get in at all. I've also seen brand new OEM ones from the dealer leak as well. I said to hell with it and hooked up the PCV to my catch can and capped off the nipple on the intake manifold. Much better.

no, the pcv valve should not leak. every single aftermarket pcv valve i have ever used has leaked some air. do yourself a favor and go oem.

AM going to do the $5 penutt butter catch can till i can get a good one trick.

let me get this right:

both lines that run off the VC go in the can 2 diffrent 90 bends and seal the can air tight with rtv. and cap off the nipple on the intake manny. does that sound right?

You need to seal the cap on the intake manifold to prevent a bad boost/vacuum leak. As for the catch can, I have the RRE one. I have both lines off the VC running into it. It has a breather filter attached to the top of the can to relieve any air pressure that enters the can, and the can itself holds any oil that exits either line (ends up being quite a bit). You don't want to seal off the catch can, as pressure needs to be able to exit the VC freely. Also, if you do end up using a true catch can, don't be scared when you drain the can and see nasty cream colored stuff mixed in with the oil, it's condensation and it's normal.

Not only am I sure it should seal but I pressure test them at boost pressures before installing it. You can't generate that kind of pressure using your mouth unless your a Los Vegas keno girl.

If it leaks when you blow on it, it's going to leak like crazy at 20 psi.
