I have a 64bit Vista OS and Ide like to hook my laptop up to data log, maybe with plans in the future to get the ECM tuning software but that is a ways from now.

In addition i have a JAW wideband hooked up i can log with RPM with a USb serial adapter product similar to this.
USB 2.0 Serial RS-232 DB-9 MINI Adapter with Detachable Extension Cable FTDI CHIP 765288 LOW PRICE $16.79

Ide like to at the very least be able to hook up to my ECU and data log whatever info is available. I really want to log AFR with other parameters if possible as I have an evo3 turbo with other minor mods and want to see what boost levels are safe with my setup instead of just trusting random people and their unproven claims that 15psi is safe.

Is it possible to do this without buying cables and a palmpc?

I have several 9pin Serial cables so I was going to try this method below.
http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/art...03316-how-set-up-mmcd-make-logging-cable.html

But then what datalogging program should I use with a 64bit vista pc?

Basically I am new to this, have done a bit of research and have found what I am doing is not the main stream and want to know if it is possible and if so how.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am anxious to get this started.

Below are other links ive looked at.

Lol, you tricked me! I saw the link to my thread and thought it was some useful info you gathered up on the net.

I have been searching this very subject all dang weekend, my head hurts from it. You have 64 bit, which from what I've seen is harder to work with than the 32 bit I'm dealing with, and I am still having problems.

For a logging program, tunerstein will be your best bet.

If you get your computer to work, please fill me in on how you did it, and what you used. I'll do the same for you.

i looked into the jackal thing. looks good for tuning but i just want to data log for now, and i couldnt find a way to just use it for that on my laptop. Can anyone guide me in the right direction to use this setup if it suits my needs, otherwise i still am in search of what I listed above.

I feel like I should be able to hook my laptop up to my car and gather information without paying any large sum of cash to do it. If i have to make a cable and DL some software thats fine, otherwise maybe this thread shows me that what I want isnt available.

ANY help would be greatly appreciated.

I got a Palm off of ebay for $17 including shipping. Cost about $5 to make up the logger cable, only problem was getting the RS232 cable. Had to order that from Hong Kong. That was another $6.
All told, say $30. This process works.

Why try and re-invent the wheel. Your saving wouldn't amount to more than $10-$15 at the most.

TMOLogger is a good 1G PC logger ->http://ceddy.us/bin/TMO_Log.zip

You can run MMCD in a palm emulator on you PC.

There is a lot free stuff for the 1Gs out there, you 1G guys have it easy.

EvoScan has a lot of nice features for $25, and can log the Innovate LC-1 & LM-1, AEM UEGO, and Zetronix ZT2; through the WBs native serial protocol so you don't need the WB connected to the ecu in any way.
