So as the title suggests, I had a PCI tensioner from partsdinosaur.com fail. I e-mail back and forth with Bruce to come up with a solution.
Here is the transcipt:
Bruce,
I know I have never had an issue with one of your products, but I installed the 95 4G63 Timing belt tensioner on my car on Tuesday July 27th. Monday August 2nd, it failed. On my drive home I heard some noise on my car and drove it slowly the last mile to my apartment. When I was able to get a friend to run me some tools, I pulled the timing belt cover to check the belt and it was quite loose between the cam gears.
I have now completely removed the timing cover and pulled the tensioner. The piston has completely retracted into the housing and it has a light coating of oil on it. I can only assume that the seal failed. I followed the factory install instructions that you sent with the parts. I am not faulting you, but I thought you might like to know.
Thanks,
Clay Smith
Clay,
I'm sorry to hear that this unit failed on your engine. I am certain that PCI tests all of these adjusters before they ship them to me, so I am also certain that they would offer to replace this one. I can do that as soon as tomorrow if you are interested. It could be in the mail on Wednesday and you would probably receive it on Friday. If you are interested in doing this, hit the reply button and let me know.
If you are only interested in returning it for credit, I understand that, too. Let me know your preference and we can take the next step.
Bruce
Bruce,
I want to order one tonight and have it two day air if you don't mind. I will return the one that is broken to you as well. If PCI will warranty it, can I get credit for the 2nd tensioner that I would like to order? Unfortunately this is my only vehicle at the moment and I am dying to get it back on the road. If PCI will not warranty this, I still need another one.
Am I making sense?
Thanks,
Clay
PCI will warranty that unit. No concerns here at all. If you place an order tonight, it will go out on Wednesday. I will credit right back to that transaction when I receive the other unit back.
Bruce
Bruce,
Thanks for the quick replies. I have placed Order # 17762 with you and selected the 2-Day Air option. As soon as the new tensioner arrives, I will place the defective unit in the OEM box and mail it back to you. I'll probably ship it USPS if that is acceptable to you. I have the small flat rate boxes that cost ~$5 to ship in.
I appreciate your prompt attention to this matter.
Clay
Thanks, Clay. I will include a mailing label that you can use for the small flat-rate-box so no expense there. I will keep the box for this one so you won't have to mess with that to get it into the return box.

Bruce Roller is awesome. I don't even have to pay shipping on the defective unit. I will gladly eat the cost of the 2nd day air to have my TSi back up and running. I want to drive to the Shootout in this car sooooo bad right now.
If you aren't ordering from Bruce at PartsDinosaur.com, I feel sad. This is a man who stands behind his products.
